When you're on the desktop or have more than one "App" running, move your cursor to the upper left to display the list of apps running, move your mouse to the desired app, right-click and choose "close".

Finally, someone with enough volume to test significant numbers of drives comes clean. There are drives to buy and drives to avoid. Just in case you're in the market

Not surprising considering the problem's I've had (and still have) with 2 Seagate 1.5TB Barracuda's. Seagate response? "There is no problem with the drive. You're not supposed to use them in a RAID." OK, then explain the "Desktop RAID" features in your own marketing materials, you MORONS!
Almost a year later, hey there's a new firmware update for the drives. Well, it doesn't fix the problems, but it makes it so the problems don't break the array every few hours.
I'll never buy another Seagate drive so long as I live.

By 2035, there will be almost no poor countries left in the world. (I mean by our current definition of poor.) Almost all countries will be what we now call lower-middle income or richer. Countries will learn from their most productive neighbors and benefit from innovations like new vaccines, better seeds, and the digital revolution. Their labor forces, buoyed by expanded education, will attract new investments. Where are they going? Can we come along?

There are some ways to get rid of older Java versions, but there's no easy path to doing so. "This application requires a Java Runtime Environtment 1.5.0"

Um, you can just uninstall them. I have, works pretty good.

Unless you have an app that specifically requires an older version. I've seen a few of those around - version-- of Oracle SQL Developer being one.

Then I get rid of that app.

I have uninstalled it myself.
I even had a web page that said it neded it but when I dismissed the notification the app worked anyway as expected.
Go figure.
Java runtime. used to be one of the things that you "Had" to install when you set up a new system. But for the most part people don't need it anymore.
Unless you are doing something the specifically requires it. Like android development on windows.
Or that Line of Buisness application that has not been updated for years.
It needs to be changed anyway
Like the older Windows XP html/script programs that used to run the help and support on it.

When Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz ran the company’s engineering team — in those heady days when Facebook was still taking over the world — he oversaw about 180 employees. You might see that as a glamorous position of power, but Moskovitz will tell you it was a serious pain. Each day, he spent hours just dealing with email. His inbox was jammed with an endless collection of mailing-list missives that didn’t always mean something to him, but each carried the implied expectation that he would take notice and keep up. Someone had better inform my inbox

I sincerely hope not. The last thing I want to do is have that bunch of arsewipes Biebers taking over my personal correspondence and raping it for marketing opportunities.
In an ideal world email would dominate and send Farsebook back to slime pond it came from.
Yeah, as you see, I give two fingers to FB.

Microsoft Research is pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence to a whole new level. Imagine a smart elevator that can figure out what floor a person wants to go to, based on their history and other factors. Think of the time saved, now that you don't have to push that button!
OK, they can probably leverage the AI to do something else, but this isn't as flashy as a driverless car.

|

So I could build up a history of selecting a series of floors to visit before my final destination?

We have smart elevators in our building. They know exactly when someone will request an elevator and using an extremely complex algorithm device a floor visiting route that ensures either
a) the fewest passengers will be picked up with the most number of floor changes, or
b) the timing is such that the number of passengers waiting to get on when the elevator actually arrives is N+1, where N = elevator capacity.
I hates them.
