Is there a way to get around the 128KB size limit when caching data on the client-side using the userData behaviour? Otherwise is there a way to save an XML document onto the client-side machine for cross session access?
Using ASP (not ASP.NET) and javascript.

From what I am aware you can't do that!
sorry

on second thoughts, although might not be approprate for your app...
try and use an IFRAME or a frame of 0 width and use insertAdjacentHTML to write and read from it.
you can even dynamically write the IFRAME by doing something like:
<br />
document.body.insertAdjacentHTML('beforeEnd','<iframe id=myPage width=0 height=0></iframe>');<br />
then you can use:
<br />
myPage.document.body.innerHTML('YOUR XML CODE HERE');<br />
After that you acess it read it or rewrite it...
Hope this helps

Thanks - I am doing something like that to persist the XML across the whole application. The problem comes in when they login or logout and they need to download the file to start with. The XML is 400K and it doesn't change very often. I was hoping that there would be a way to persist the data on the client-side between sessions so they wouldn't have to download it every time.
I think I can do it using multiple frames and pages (and hence multiple userData behavior's), but I was hoping there would be a more elegant solution.

Well, if it is a intranet Internet Explorer only app why don't you try to do something wich ActiveX.
400K is a lot of dada. Do you really need all that on the client?

hidden input type usage is good for transfering one value but for array what should be done.
I have used
<%
Dim list(30)
'--Values are retrived from database
'--for e.g say
list(0)="One"
list(1)="Two"
...............
%>
Now at clinet side
'--This is not working for example
MsgBox <%=list(0)%>
Suggest me how to do it.

|
|
|
|
You will have to create a VBScript array and loop through the server side array to populate the client side array...

this should work perfectly fine if there is no problem in your session but there is one important distinction which you are missing:
Now at clinet side
<script LANGUAGE=VBSCRIPT>
'--This is not working for example
MsgBox <%=list(0)%>
</script>
This is not a client side code it runs on your server and value of <%=list(0)%> fills up on the server side.
Hope this helps.

even you guys insist that these tags accept relative sizes. the only sizes i can get it to accept are ones in pixels. using relative sizing makes them disappear.
how do i embed one html page inside another and retain control over the damn sizes?!?!

Hi,
I am new to PHP, jumping from ASP. I know that there is Response.Redirect (URL) in ASP. But how does that comes in PHP??
I thought that it is Header ('location : URL'); But restriction says.. it should be the first piece of the code in the page. So... I am struck... please help...

Yes that is the way to do it. It sends header information to the browser, all of which must be sent before there is any output (graphics, text, etc.) actually sent. Treat it the same as you would a cookie.
Basically, what this means is that you have to handle all of your redirects at the top of the page.

finally I got the answer....
The buffering concept will help to do it.... It goes like this...
<br />
<?php<br />
ob_start();<br />
<br />
<br />
header ("location : URL");<br />
ob_end_flush();<br />
?><br />
The above helped me to push the header succesfully..

Hopefully someone can help me...I'm creating this game...it's kind of like a create a story thing...and when the user clicks on a button it moves on to the next skit. Well, instead of moving onto the next skit, it's will keep playing the first skit. Does anyone know what actions have to be assigned?

Macrmedia has some Flash forums on their website. You'll probably be better off getting your question answered there. Good luck.

Well, from what I can see it appears that the movie is looping which its default nature. You can use ActionScript to stop() the movie at the end of the skit and then let the buttons control where the movie goes after that (gotoAndPlay() ).
I am not sure if that is the problem but from the given information that is where I would start to look.
Can you tell me more about how you are making the movie? Is it all on the main timeline? Do you use different scenes to separate them?

in flash you can make actions in objets for example on(relase) on(mouseover) and you put sounds in this actions, put diferents layers in your movie one for actions, one for sound and images, and put javascript from your actions in your flash movie this is whit the command getURL(""), test the Macromedia Flash MX is very good

I am looking for a function to toggle a frame from one page then another. I have a Image showing and want to be able to hit a button to toggle off frame contents and toggle on another, then reverse if need be.
I have a Frame Page EDMS.html with a frame called viewer and I want to toggle between Data_Form.html and Data_List.html.
Any quick Suggestions?

I have two list boxes.
First list box is filled with some enteries from database.
Now when user select one entry from first list box(client-side event) then second list box is filled with values based on that first selection.
Second list box enteries are retrived from database(server side action).
Guide me how to do this.

Simple solution is to use a postback in ASP.Net and then get the items for the other listbox
Other solution is to create an asp.net page which generates XML. XML can be loaded by javascript at the client side. And then you can change the entries of the second box. A thing i have to warn you is that the Viewstate will not work because the items are not set runtime. But you can still use Page.Response["ddlName"] tot get the selected one.
The last solution is very sexy i think. Maybe i will write my first article about this.

The following is the code for the dropdownlist... written in ASP to pump the html code. The first drop down is for the CITY, and the other for the CATEGOREY.
<br />
<%<br />
Response.Write "<Select name='City' onClick='redirect(this.options.selectedIndex)' onFocus='redirect(this.options.selectedIndex)' onChange='redirect(this.options.selectedIndex)'>"<br />
Response.Write "<option value='Select'>Select City</option>"<br />
<br />
for ii=1 to temp_rs.RecordCount<br />
if (Request ("srchCat") = temp_rs ("City")) then<br />
selOpt = "selected"<br />
else<br />
selOpt = ""<br />
end if<br />
Response.Write "<option " & selOpt & " value='" & temp_rs ("City") & "'>" & temp_rs ("City") & "</option>"<br />
temp_rs.MoveNext<br />
next<br />
<br />
Response.Write "</select>"<br />
<br />
Response.Write "<Select name='Category' size='1'>"<br />
Response.Write "<option value='Select'>Select Category</option>"<br />
Response.Write "</select>"<br />
<br />
%><br />
The following is the JSCRIPT and ASP combined stuff......
<br />
<br />
<script><br />
<!--<br />
var groups = document.drsrchform.City.options.length<br />
var group = new Array(groups)<br />
<br />
for (i=0; i<groups; i++)<br />
group[i]=new Array()<br />
<%<br />
Dim curVal, cityCnt, catCnt, curCity<br />
cityCnt = 1<br />
catCnt = 0<br />
<br />
set conn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")<br />
conn.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Persist Security Info=False;" & "Data Source=" &Server.MapPath(drDatabase)<br />
Set temp_rs = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.RecordSet")<br />
SqlStr= "SELECT distinct Category, City FROM DocDetails where Country='XXX' order by City"<br />
<br />
temp_rs.Open SqlStr, conn, 1,3<br />
curCity = temp_rs ("City")<br />
<br />
Do While not temp_rs.EOF<br />
curVal = temp_rs ("Category")<br />
if (curCity <> temp_rs("City")) then<br />
cityCnt = cityCnt + 1<br />
catCnt = 0<br />
curCity = temp_rs ("City")<br />
end if<br />
%><br />
group[<%=cityCnt%>][<%=catCnt%>] = new Option ("<%=curVal%>","<%=curVal%>");<br />
<%<br />
catCnt = catCnt + 1<br />
temp_rs.MoveNext<br />
loop<br />
set temp_rs=nothing<br />
set Conn=nothing<br />
%><br />
var temp=document.drsrchform.Category<br />
function redirect(x)<br />
{<br />
for (m=temp.options.length-1;m>0;m--)<br />
temp.options[m]=null<br />
for (i=0;i<group[x].length;i++)<br />
{<br />
temp.options[i]=new Option(group[x][i].text,group[x][i].value)<br />
}<br />
temp.options[0].selected=true<br />
}<br />
</script><br />
<br />
Please notice that... if there is ANY change in the name of the vars/anything... this wont wont work.
Have fun...

I'm currently working as a web developer for a medium sized company (http://www.herbeau.com(Boss' old design)[^] Herbeau Creations of America to be exact). The vice-president was the previous web designer with absolutly no web experience what-so-ever.
He chose earthlink as his Web Host(*NIX server that supported front page extensions and no other MICRO$OFT app support). However we're running (1)Win2k server, (1)WinXP pro server, and (19)WinXP machines with IIS 5.1 installed and waiting for my development of the website which is to be used inner-office as well as globally on the web. Every office application is MICRO$OFT labeled and I brought Dreamweaver MX(ASP.NET/ASP oriented) into the picture. Now the problem is he wants the page to have maximum interactivity, as well as working search engines in/out of office for the customer sales reps to guide customers with.
I've been using ASP with great results, but then came to discover at the 75% mark that the current web host doesn't support ASP. (He assumed the webhost supported ASP and I didn't think to check for myself...stupid on my part ) Now the decision is to change to a window's host for product/inter-company compatability or stick with our current setup and get everything working as is with PHP. I've got PHP working with IIS as much of a pain as it is. However if possible I'd still rather turn back and go to a windows host before further complications arise. Any opinions?
Added: I'm big on jumping into the MICRO$OFT bandwagon, however when it comes to business you've gotta go with what you're already built for.
