I am working on an image editing application, and I was getting a noticeable screen flicker. Is there a way to override the WM_ERASEBACKGROUND message that gets sent during a Refresh? I have a bitmap in memory that I am copying to the screen, so erasing the background during a Refresh doen't do anything besides irritate me.
I have come up with a workaround - I created my own screen painting subroutine and changed some of the Refreshes, Invalidates and InvalidateRgns to run my subroutine instead, but I still would like to know if there's some flag somewhere that you could set.

To not wish to know is worse.

Hello everyone,
I am having a crazy problem, and cannot find anything on the Internet
as to why this is happening.
I have a project folder, in which I have a Database folder.
+Project (Folder)
Project files (forms)
+Database (Folder)
Database files
+XML (Folder)
When I make an OLEdbConnection from a form in my project files folder, the absolute
path looks like this
D:\Documents and Settings\j\Desktop\DEVELOPMENT\GradID\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
when I test the connection, it works.
however, I want it to be a relative link so I set it up like this since I am
in the project folder and want to go down into the database
folder.
.\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
However, when I test the connection I get this error.
D:\Documents and Settings\j\Desktop\DEVELOPMENT\GradID\Database\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
Notice the two "Database" in a row, it's as if my project is in the Database
folder. Understand?
The relative link that works is .\GradIdentDB.mdb
Again, it looks like Visual Studio thinks my form is in the Databse folder,
but it isn't, it is in the Project Folder.
Someone suggested making sure my output path as /bin, mine says bin/, and
when I tried to change it to /bin, VS.NET turned it back to bin/
Anyone know how to fix this?
Also, another similar problem creeps up when I import names from an Excel
sheet, say the Excel sheet is in the C:\ root, I'll get an error that says
my path to my .mdb is invalid.
In other words it stops looking here
D:\Documents and Settings\j\Desktop\DEVELOPMENT\GradID\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
and starts looking here
C:\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
if the Excel sheet is in the D:\ root
then it start looking here for my .MDB.
D:\Database\GradIdentDB.mdb
this makes no sense at all.
Any help would be great.
thanks,
Jason

You are going to need to modify your connection string. This is done most easily by modifying the " Windows Form Designer generated code " - you know, the stuff you're not supposed to change.
1. Search for "ConnectionString" in the hidden text.
2. In that mighty long string, find "Data Source=". This will give you the full absolute path. I think you can just change out the full path to your relative one. Otherwise you can set the path to 'Application.StartupPath & "\Database\GradientDB.mdb"'
To not know is bad.
To not wish to know is worse.

Hi, I have a problem with drag and drop: every sample about it i have found shows only how to drag a text from a textbox to another or a listview/treeview item to another. Instead, I have some controls (some shapes) and i need to allow to the user to drag them over the form like the visual studio IDE, with the resizing handles, the drawing of the dragged control's border, etc... exactly how the IDE! Can anyone help me, showing some samples (in vb.net or c#)?

I am writing an automation program which has a form that displays a bunch of values. There is a program (class) which runs in the background and updates the form. I would like to place a button on the form which should pause the program (class) from running until the user says it is OK to continue. Unfortunately by running the code in the background, it no longer recognizes the form. (I click on the button and nothing happens). Does anyone know of an easy way to have the button have control when pressed (take away control from the class?). Thanks for any help!

Hello all!!
I got what I hope to be is a pretty quick question. I have a Table in VB. Let's call it "Friends". In it, I have a field called "IDNumber" that is generated by two other fields "Fname" (first name) and "Lname" (last name). Now I want to be able to simply click a button and have the "IDNumber" field self-generate. Is there a way to set a string equal to a field in the table. I know I can open the table with the DoCmd.OpenTable command.
If anyone could tell me how I could grab the fname and lname field info and store them in a string, that would be cool.
Thanks a lot,
Nick

I have avb6 project with one form. It has a monthview control and button.
In form activate, I setfocus to the monthview control. In the code for the button all i have is 'end'.
If you click on the button when the monthview control has focus, the click event does not fire until you click a second time (not double click). If i dont set focus to the monthview, the click event fires as it should (but offcouse my user hasnt selected a date!).
Anyone know whats happening.
Ive moved to the monthview control from an older calendar control because in xp, visual studio 6 crashes when accessing the old control (only in xp, ok in nt4)
Im new today to this site, many thanks in advance.

In an application I am running I would like to be able to shutdown IIS's FTP
service if a given condition is met. Is there a way to programatically access the FTP to be
able to shut it down without having to shutdown all of IIS (I have a couple
of websites I would like to keep running). I am using VB6 for this, but if anyone knows of a more appropriate language to do this in, then i am willing to try it too.
Thank you,
Paul

i think if you search microsoft site, you will find some vbscripts with the approriate commands, and if im not mistaken, these vb scripts might be copied to the server when you install IIS - Steve

Hi all
I am working on Activex control that is hosted in IE (ActiveX control as app in the IE). I need to fit this control in the IE whenever the user resizes the IE. how ca I do that????
|
|
|

You would have to perform that on the client side with some JavaScript. I have done it before (can't seem to locate the code I used right now) but it gets very crude looking and flashes quite a bit.
You also need to handle the controls resize internally to the control if you want to alter the size of any of the embedded controls. It can get to looking really ugly.
Does this HAVE to be an ActiveX control for the GUI or could it be done using an ASP page and the ActiveX control to handle the work.

Hello,
I want to filter a search of my records in teh database, but am a little perplexed as to how to filter more than one criteria. This is what I am trying to do.
On my Main Menu Form, there is an option to "Look up friends by area code." These area codes are in a drop down menu, so if the user selects '123' for example, then it will open a new form (friend_frm) and every friend in area code '123' will be listed.
My problem is, I have a field in the frm_friend, called active/passive. I do not want friends to show up if they are listed as passive. I don't know how to incorporate this into my filter.
Private Sub Command97_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command97_Click
Dim stDocName As String
Dim stLinkCriteria As String
stDocName = "frm_friend"
stLinkCriteria = "[Area Code]=" & Me![Combo94]
DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteria
Exit_Command97_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_Command97_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command97_Click
End Sub
What do I add to "stLinkCriteria' to make it filter out the subset of the records of friends who are in a particular area code?
If anyone knows how to do this, I'd be very appreciative. Thank you very much.
Nick

This has nothing to do with link criteria. Make your data source SQL be something like this:
SELECT * FROM Friends WHERE Friends.ActivePassive="Active"
OR
SELECT * FROM Friends WHERE Friends.Active=True

Hello
I create a structure (shown below)
Public Structure strucAI
Public IO As strucIO
Public Data As strucData
Public System As strucSystems
Public Memory As strucMemory
Public Learning As strucLearning
Public Operations As strucOperations
Public Programming As strucProgramming
End Structure
And I define a variable AI as the structure
Public AI As strucAI
But the problem is : i want to hide members which are;
AI.GetType()
AI.Equals()
AI.GetHashCode()
AI.ToString()
Is there any way to do that?
Thank you for your time

Since all data types in NET derive ultimatelly from the Object data type and the GetType(), Equals(), GetHashCode(), ToString() are members of Object, these methods can not be hidden they can only be overriden.
In your case, it would be interesting to override the ToString() method to display a custom text representation of your struct.

I have an Access / VB application that displays images. The Access tables has a link to a picture in jpeg format. I want to outline an object on the displayed image using the mouse, then create and save the outline definition and a link to a another more detailed image of the outlined object. In other words, I would like to be able to drill down into the image to reveal increasing details. I need a method or tool for outlining the objects and creating the new links which would probably be stored in another table. There needs to be some way to specify the area on an image that can be clicked in order to do the drill down. I want to avoid having to use an external application such as ArcView. Neither the image nor the application window would be resized during application usage. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
