The author missed a small point...Real programmer never wants to be 'there' - at the 'perfect' spot! A real programmer wants to move forward - all the time. The problem is not the programmer but that he have to choose between paths - there are far too many paths to walk on...
I'm not questioning your powers of observation; I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. (V)

If you simply mean that a developer wants to continue moving forward on the project at hand, and not be bogged down in meetings and paperwork, then I agree.
But if you mean "to advance his career" then I disagree. Developers want to develop. Most (though not all) managers I've met who used to be developers, wished they still did development. If you (not meaning you personally of course) wish to be a manager or team leader or whatnot, then you probably are not "A real programmer".

By 'move forward' I mean to do old things in a better way and do new things - learn and develop (code and himself too)...

Ah, well that's alright then. Carry on.

Well, I guess that's a personal accomplishment then. Much of the year to still go, though. I'm sure I can do worse if I really try.

I just threw up a little in the back of my throat.
I say this as my thirteen-year-son is playing that fetid nonsense on the XBox in the other room.
I'll also point out (perhaps even constructively) that the kid chose to replace his Android phone with an iPhone because of some related app (a skin editor?) that was only available for that platform. That is a market I'm sure Microsoft wants.

Point him to Turing Machines made in Minecraft[^], and give him three days to implement a basic 8086 chip! Only then can he get an iPhone, by proving his worth!

Apple has introduced their new payment service, Apple Pay. Apple has created a new option to replace the 'archaic' method of making payments with a credit or debit card by adding a new secure, convenient, and expedited method to its new iPhones. Yes people will. Oh, yes they will. Pernasally.

Because Apple is so good at security.

Apple on Tuesday unveiled its next-generation iPhones, which include larger screens and the integration of a new mobile payments system that will let you make store purchases by waving or tapping your iPhone at a checkout terminal. Oh right, that's today. No wonder the Internet is slow right now.

While I realize I will get nowhere with this, and while I also realize that Apple is the only company to do this, but personally, (not that I would actually ever buy and Apple product) I think it would be really great if consumers would boycott Apple because of how they set up these straw-man overseas companies in a legal loophole to avoid paying US taxes. Yes, I know Google, Microsoft, etc.,etc.,etc., all do that too, but all we need to do is boycott one company so that it really hurts, and the threat of doing to others may make a dent in these practices.
Ooops. This is soapbox material, isn't it? Bad Marc, Bad!

I don't know if it's Soapbox-worthy. Well, yeah, I guess it is, but I mean it doesn't really have to be. (IMO, I always feel that the SB is more for just 'out of control political' discussions).
As you say, they all do this. There was a news item about Microsoft[^] the other day doing this. However, Apple is probably the easiest to pick for most of the CP audience.

I'm not sure if boycotting one of them (in this case, Apple) would change anything, because hurting Apple won't do any harm to Microsoft, Google, etc. In fact, they would even benefit from it because there is one competitor less and they are the alternatives. Do we really want that? I mean, in which way are Microsoft or Google better than Apple. Maybe they are worse? No, boycott would only work if you do it to all of them. I'm not sure if the masses are willing to go that way.

At $14.2 billion Apple paid the 3rd most corporate taxes in the US last year. With an effective tax rate of 25% they paid at a higher rate than IBM ($5.3B / 24%), Microsoft ($4.6B / 22.8%), Intel ($3.2B / 23.6%), Oracle ($2.9 / 21.4%) and Google ($2.6 / 19.4%).
Given Google's market cap v. tax burden I'd say they're the best choice for your boycott.
