Well, I guess it's sort of cute. I can imagine myself as a cosmic particle plunging down the web page. *groan*

Ted Neward - Video from the 33rd Degree conference[^]
A bit long (1 hr 20) and occasionally sweary (so headphones advised if you are watching at work ) but a good overview of why the relationship between managers and developers is so fraught and what we could do to build a kinder, more gentle world...

Microsoft has focused on how businesses will benefit from its next operating system, Windows 10, not only because corporate customers are its bread and butter, but to prevent consumers from balking at buying new PCs, an analyst said last week. "How ya gonna keep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Paree?'"

Isn't PC dead already?
So what is better? Let customers postpone the next purchase of Windows or let them buy some *nix machine?

Software development has evolved a plethora of techniques to identify and eliminate defects. Practices to find out about defects quickly. And practices to hopefully avoid introducing defects. Developers

Before saying there are defects in softwares, atleast try to understand the pain we have to go through.

I know no developer who ever delivered defective software - the problem that the end user using a completely different hardware/software environment than that used by the developer...

Hey, "It Works On My Machinetm"
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.-John Q. Adams You must accept one of two basic premises: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not alone in the universe. And either way, the implications are staggering.-Wernher von Braun Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.-Albert Einstein

The primary cause of defects in software is building software that shouldn’t be built in the first place.
At first I thought that was a ridiculous point, then I thought maybe he's on to something, especially if you consider all the little pieces of code that make an app, then I thought, no, his point really is BS.

OK, OK. Everyone ganging up on poor widdle me. I put 'developers' there for the simple reason that "if there's a defect in the code, whoever wrote the code must be the one that put it there." But yeah, much of the time it's spec errors, or PEBKAC, or even POOM. That's just not very pithy.

POOM? Other than something that appears exceptionally vulgar from urban dictionary, Google isn't showing me any potential acronyms when I searched on that.

Sorry, we used to use it a lot to explain software errors, but I guess it was local. PooM or POOM: Phase of the Moon. For those errors with no other useful explanation.

The emergence of next-generation social, mobile, analytics and cloud technology has sparked a war for developers able to continue the fast pace of innovation. Enterprises that want to remain in business tomorrow would be wise to make the right changes today. "You see me now, a veteran of a thousand psychic wars"

By nature enterprise application move slowly...the users used to it, as they have additional value of the enterprise...
However social media connection, mobile accessibility is not new. Data analysis, like BI is part of enterprise applications since the very beginning, big-data analysis is also there for years...
So we left with the cloud - in my experience most enterprise users are keen to keep their data close to them and the IT team afraid to loose the influence it has while moving parts of the system to to cloud, and that can be a big obstacle in the near future...

Samsung's developing new Wi-Fi tech that can transfer a 1GB file between devices in under 3 seconds. I'll take two, thank you.

Today WiFi devices broadcast a relatively weak signal, but do it to every direction. A 'beam' means a powerful signal directed to some specific direction. It may solve the problem for high frequency signals, but what will happened to the materials (like your brain) in-between? Does Samsung test it too?

Good try! That is a wireless network, no big deal! Try something new for bluetooth technology, atleast try to maximize the range of their connectivity.
