Physicists have built a tractor beam out of lasers that can both repel and attract objects across distances 100 times farther than previously possible. "Balok's tractor beam has to be a heavy drain of power on his small ship"

The question now is... when are they going to create the ships to use it?

If something has a solution... Why do we have to worry about?. If it has no solution... For what reason do we have to worry about?

Apple has begun automatically collecting the locations of users and the queries they type when searching for files with the newest Mac operating system, a function that has provoked backlash for a company that portrays itself as a leader on privacy. Spy Different?

Hello, and welcome to the TechnoCloud Show.
Today we are going to cover the poisoned Apple, the one with the single bite out of it.
Ron, what's the latest?
Well, Jake, it looks like we'll now be able to know where Sleeping Beauty is sleeping in the forest after all.

Six months after the release of Java 8, San Francisco-based Typesafe—the commercial backers of Scala, Play Framework, and Akka—has released a follow-up survey of Java developers. A hefty sample size of 3,000 Java developers not only updates our data on Java 8 adoption, it highlights other trends driving enterprise application development today. Is 'Droves' one of those new countries I haven't heard of before?

Quote: One of the head scratchers was around Linux containers, where the data didn’t really line up. While 60% of respondents claimed to be investigating Linux containers, and 23% said they use Docker, only 13% said they are actually using Linux containers in production.
So 10% of them are using Docker to setup test/dev environments while trying to convince the PHBs to let them use it in production. What's so hard about that?
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man with a wise brow and pulseless heart, waging all things in the balance of reason?
Is not rather the genius of history like an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

A slightly misleading headline - surely it should be "Java Developers are adopting..."? As it stands, it suggests that developers are moving to Java 8 from other languages, but the survey only asked Java developers.

Following Microsoft’s announcement today about new partnerships with operating system startup CoreOS and big data company Cloudera, it’s clearer than it’s been in years the tech giant is committed to working with lots of partners and open-source technologies. A time traveler from 1998 would be very confused by that headline
(Or even one from 2010, I would think)

The BBC has realised the importance of programming, and is helping to get kids into coding through use of a game based on their flagship Doctor Who series which teaches children the basics of programming so perhaps one day they will be able to create the next Halo or Call of Duty - rather than just play it. Spam mail is an issue for everyone but when you are the provider of the email account, it is up to you to figure out how to block that unwanted content from reaching the user's inbox. For Microsoft, this is an ongoing challenge as they host millions of email accounts between Hotmail and Outlook which means that if they miss one type of spam message, it will impact millions of users. Well, that's my Inbox clean. Sorry about yours.
