I don't drink so much coffee, but I drink an espresso before going to sleep. I sleep like an angel.

This is clearly the case of Chicken and Egg.
My doctor explained that I was self-medicating with Caffeine. I can range from ZERO to 500mg a day.
I find that I drink more when I need to focus, without distraction.
In fact when I am knee deep in a project, I make sure I have more caffeine sources available.
As a side note, since taking Zyrtec for allergies, I have very few Caffeine headaches on the days I don't do any. (I don't drink coffee/cola on the weekends very much, unless working)
I refuse to take any "real" drugs for my ADD... I have seen the Ticks and other side effects these have caused.
But I am SHOCKED at how little caffeine the respondents are saying they get daily. This flies in the face of Cola drinking programmers (and almost everyone I know)...

I enjoy a cup of tea before work (sometimes) but generally abstain from tea and coffee during the week. Like wine I tend to favour saving a good coffee for the weekends. You lose the caffeine kick if you have it regularly. I drink lemon tea at work.

I can't measure. I mean I don't want to measure... I don't want to mess up my head with calculating caffine...
I have enough other coding issues for it.
If you ask how many cup of tea or coffee? Answer is 2 or sometimes 4 a day.

I quit drinking or buying coffee 6 years ago;
Problem was that it kept jumping out of the cup on me. It would ruin clothes, favorite shirts, several times while driving, the coffee cup would just jump out of the cup holder, which was a perfect fit, and coffee everywhere. So one day day I said that's it, no more coffee for me.
Quit the diet coke 2 summers ago. Oh I love that stuff, 1 44oz everyday. So I broke my foot 2 summers ago from stress fractures; I bowled several days a week, and the new bowling shoes were hard on my feet. I wasn't able to walk for 3 weeks, no lunch, hurt to much to get that diet coke, and ended losing another 25 lbs in weight. So the weight I've been struggling to lose by running and walking 3 miles; 5 days a week for 5 years, was suddenly lost.
I'm not going back to that stuff, just water and beer for me, cheap beer.

I used to be a 4 liter of diet-dew a day guy. But seeing as how that was only slightly less silly than shooting myself in the face with a load of 00, I knocked that off.
Now it's 1 nodoz a day during the week, two on Fridays, Saturdays, and one on Sundays. Sometimes there's another regular soda in there someplace.
Love the smell of coffee, but can't tolerate the taste. No matter what I do to it, it's just foul.
My life would be MUCH easier if I drank coffee.
And don't even start on tea; just tastes like water filtered through dried leaves to me.

LOL. Tea IS water filtered through dry leaves!
I hated coffee as well. Way too bitter.
I found that if I used a really course ground it removed most of the bitterness.
I would add half and half (still do if panera, wont even purchase at Starbucks).
But I found an instant blend, slightly watered down, with 1 packet of splenda (no need for milk/cream).
But I can't drink what most people call coffee. My Russian friends call American Coffee "Coffee Juice", and they call what I drink a Second derivative of "Coffee Juice"... (We get darker liquid washing the stain from the cup, LOL).
To each their own. You are better off with the water.

My office has unlimited coffee available, and I have a 24 oz cup. It rarely gets emptied completely, but I refill it at least 8 times a day, often more. That doesn't include the full 10-cup pot I have in the morning before work, of course.

According to Google[^] tea (100mg) has 11mg caffeine. Here I found 50mg of cfn and no information about the tea quantity. So, a survey must have enough information guys
I usually drink tea, ummm well a big sized mug, 6 times a day, usually more.

11mg (up to 47mg) would be iced tea (also according to Google). Proper Black brewed tea: Quote: Black tea 8 oz. (237 mL) 14-70 mg
Quote: Black tea, brewed for 3 minutes 8 fl. oz. 30-80 ...from two sources. So 50mg for an 8oz tea is a reasonable average strength.

but on average... I use to get a double expresso with 2 cubes sugar and some milk.
That's my standard portion, from which I take 3 a day, sometimes more (depending on how soon I started or how much stress brings the day).
Trying to reduce, but not so successfull on it

Turns out 9 mugs of tea per day isn't normal , and that disregards the coffees I have just to start the old motor. The Mayo Clinic suggests closer to 4 cups of coffee or 8 cups of tea per day as a maximum safe limit[^]
So much for the cup that cheers but does not inebriate.
