When posting "gone" please write it as subject as well. It helps saving time for the rest

Yeah. Correct. Thanks bro...
See, I have changed the subject of this message as well.

When dealing with spam messages that we spot in the forums (and Q&A) is it better just to mark them as spam, or should we delete them? It occurs to me that if we delete them then other members are less likely to notice, and the actual spammer remains here for longer. And not everyone (mea culpa) remembers to report them here.
|
|
|
|
|
I was raising the notification about the spam and member, and then just deleting the spam until I saw a post from Chris which seems to indicate that their spam filter is working again, so it needs the reports to "learn" about the spam.
|
|
|
|
|
The way I work is this: If it's in the moderation queue, I hit the "Spam" and "Spammer" buttons, and report it here.
If it's in "a public place" where "normal" members or webcrawlers can get at it, then "Spam", "Spammer", "Report", and "Delete" to reduce the exposure and limit any gain to the spammer.
Bad command or file name. Bad, bad command! Sit! Stay! Staaaay...

A lot of work to get rid of them...
Skipper: We'll fix it.
Alex: Fix it? How you gonna fix this?
Skipper: Grit, spit and a whole lotta duct tape.

I personally report them, and once the get "automatically removed" I full delete them to reduce noise in the forum.
If it is a persistant spammer posting messages at high rate, then I try to clean up as he posts until I have to go or he gets nuked.

It is offering a free version to students, but it is otherwise a paid product.
EDIT: Report away!

It's not really an article about code analysis, but only about product - and (IMHO) not to good...
The author is working for the company developing the product.
It's not really a free for student, but more a trial for a year license...
(I didn't reported as it's hard to decide, but I do not like these things...)

He's a valuable member, I remember some of his articles and they are well done. If it is possibile it could be moved in Third Party Products, otherwise I'd delete the article but not the author.

What is strange that after two years of silence he came back with two articles of the same purpose - he also upgraded his profile with endless links to his own product-site (of which others were banned in past)...
Anyway - let the hamsters decide...

Agree. This article is an advertisement of CppCat application.

It's spam. Clear and simple - he's advertising a product. While there's a "free"ish version for students, the vast majority of people here are professional coders, so this looks like a cynical ploy. Deal with it the way you'd deal with other spam articles.
