Since votec is a number, and you're constructing a string, you might try an explicit cast of votec to a string representation; ie, CStr(votec) instead of merely 'votec'.

Yes that will work, or you can use If Else ElseIf.

I am using Session variables to control flow through a website. One ASP page tests the value of Session("update") on entry; if it's set to "No" the script allows a record to be edited, after which it changes Session("update") to "Yes" and reloads the same page. If the value is "Yes" it is supposed to Update the DB with the new values from the edit phase. The value of the session variable is initialized in global.asa using the Session_OnStart subroutine. The trouble is that this variable never gets set! The other three variables I use for other things all get initialized correctly, but this one consistently gets skipped.
Is there something about session variables that I'm missing? Is "update" a reserved word or something? Is there a smarter way to do this?

Dunno, but if each user is supposed to have Session("Update") initialised to "No", you could do something like:
If Session("Update") <> "Yes" Then
...do the update...
Session("Update") = "Yes"
Response.Redirect ("MyPage.asp")
End If
...other code in page...

That's a possibility, but I really hate the idea of leaving anything undefined, however briefly. This should be working - the variable should be set at the opening of the session. But it isn't, and the others that I define in the same section are being set correctly and reliably. Very strange and frustrating!

Hi,
i want to create a htmlhelp .chm file and want to send a tcard message to a calling .exe. in order to do that i included the control
<object id="training" type="application/x-oleobject" classid="clsid:adb880a6-d8ff-11cf-9377-00aa003b7a11">
<param name="Command" value="TCard" />
<param name="Button" value="Text: Ok" />
<param name="Item1" value="5555, MyText" />
<param name="Font" value="Arial,8,0,," />
Now i want to change the line <param name="Item1" value="5555, MyText" /> dynamically, but i can't manage it. it is not possible to 'appendChild' to the <object> nor is it to do it via 'document.all.training.Item1.value="0, NewString"...
Unfortunately the text 'MyText' seems to be limited to 255 characters in htmlhelp workshop (a further problem).
Does anybody know why?
Thyx

Hi All,
I have made a messenger application fot my site in asp.
To display the messages I am refreshing the display page every 5 sec.
But I want some functionality where I can get the information as soon as a new message comes,
so that instead of refreshing the page every 5 sec. I can refresh it only if some new message comes.
Anybody having a solution to this problem in asp, please suggest me!!
Thanks.
