If you are planning to develop android mobile applications within visual studio, then you can start within the ASP.NET project template. But, if you want to go simple like Java, then C# is another good option. C# is somewhat similar to Java.

Hello,
I have a need to create a spreadsheet upon demand (use triggered). Because of the volume of records, I cannot have the user wait and was thinking of creating a job queue. My question is if I create the queue within the website (separate running thread) and the last user logged off, does IIS shutdown the website even though a spreadsheet could be in the middle of being created or is it smart enough to realize a thread is "busy" doing something so stay running? If not, is the recommendation to create a windows service that would had the creation of these spreadsheets or?
Thanks for your time,
Nathan

Hi,
I would suggest to use middleware instead of relying on separate thread.
Some of the suggested option in your case:
1. Message Queue: MSMQ, MS Service Bus or RabbitMQ
OR
2. Add your Queue in persistent storage/Cache like Redis. It is reliable and will mostly process your queue even when your server restart.
Hope this will help.

What is 3 Tier Architecture? How to work It?
|
|
|
|
|
A typical n-tier application includes a presentation tier, a application tier, and a data tier as -
Presentation Tier: Here you can present your services/data/information to user. This tier communicates with other tiers by sending request/results to the browser and other tiers in the network.
Application Tier: Also called the middle tier, logic tier, business logic or logic tier, this tier is pulled from the presentation tier. It controls application functionality / business logic implementation by performing detailed processing.
Data Tier: Database servers where information is stored and retrieved. Data in this tier is kept independent of application servers or business logic.

Hope this helps.

N-Tier applications are data applications that further divided into multiple tiers. The easiest way to separate the various tiers is to create discrete projects for each tier that you want to include in your application. Presentation tier and the Logic tier are sometimes called Business Logic Layer. Nowadays, I am watching many companies hiring those web developers who are familiar with N-Tier architecture, or must be able to develop N-Tier apps.

I have a web page, .net 4.5, that has a tab control. The second tab contains a chart control. When I run the page in VS 2013 Community Edition, it displays as it should. However, in the designer only the upper left portion of the chart is visible. Is there a way to fix this so that I can see the entire chart? I have a desktop application which has the same chart in a tabbed page, and it is all visible in the designer. I can't find anything to make the whole chart visible. Nothing scrolls, either. I have been unable to find anything on the web to shed light on this behavior.

If you are setting the chart data dynamically, then, it seems to be the expected behavior.
Your design view cannot generate chart preview unless it gets the data. Even if it gets the data, generating design view is costly from performance point of view, so, it should not be done.
I would suggest not to rely on design view and test your charts while running it directly.

Anurag,
Thank you. The chart is not dynamically populated and contains whatever is the default. I have the same application on windows form and the entire chart shows. So, I am still puzzled as to why the chart does not show in its entirety on the web page designer. Maybe I don't have something that is quite right. But, for now I can live with it. I have a similar application using VS 2010 and .net 3.5. But I use images instead of the chart. But I cannot find how to add a point on the image with java script (or otherwise). I'm searching, though. Using the chart I would like to add some labels within the chart areas, but I haven't found a way to accomplish this. Any advice on either?

Hi all,
I have developed 3 tier MVC application using MVC controller, each time when the MVC controller calls repository, the repository would then invoke wcf service and deserialize into the model object. Diagram: WCF (return json string) -> Repository (deserialize and return objects) -> MVC Controller -> View
If i want to develop the 3 tier MVC application using asp.net web API, i do not know how is it possible? (1) I understand ASP WEB API controller returns HTTP response such as JSON, XML (content negotiable), then can I replace WCF with ASP WEB API and if this is valid, I can get confused how this can be a three tier application because ASP WEB API controller is already part of MVC project.
(2) Or should it be something like this Diagram: ASP Web API Controller (Self host, considered one tier) (return json string) -> Repository (deserialize and return objects) -> MVC Controller -> View
My confusion is whenever we talk about APIs, it should be able to self hosted as one tier (no doubt ASP WEB API has fulfilled this) and it is able to get called and return data to different applications. However, if ASP WEB API is at controller level and do I still need WCF as json data supplier?
I always prefer to deserialise json into model object before passing to MVC controller so that it make sure basic business logic is done. But with the use of ASP WEB API controller, I do not how to achieve the same because WEB API always return HTTP response in text unless I make use of MVC controller to fire the call to ASP WEB API and the deserialization can take place at MVC controller level.
Is it better to use asp.net web API controller with MVC rather than normal MVC controller? I have gone through a number of articles talking about ASP.NET MVC WEB API but I still have not seen core value how does it benefit to my 3 tier application mentioned above. I really need your guidance on this.
Thanks.

I am new at this. I am part of the Michigan Disaster Relief and setting up a database of all our team members. I would like to be able to send a text message to a volunteer through my web page.
I have done it before and got a data base with cell phone providers. Draw back is I have to ask the volunteer who their provider is.
Is there anyway I can send a text message without knowing the cell phone provider.
Thanks for your help.

There are converters on the web that will convert from C# to VB, just google them.
