It's the most used bteween contacts, texts are not limited to 140 characters (no love lost for the Orwellian reduction of vocabulary), sharing media is easier.
With careful cleanings of contacts I also avoid the brunt of FB stupidity, being aware of it only through satiric/sarcastic pages.
