There are only 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

According to a new report from SOASTA, 85% of respondents found third-party features annoying, and three in four respondents preferred unpleasant activities over third-party features. Yup. (Once I figured out what third-party features were)

The other 15% were just annoyed.

Or just didn't understand what was annoying them.

We are transitioning away from the Customer-End User paradigm to a paradigm where the customer is something entirely different than the end user. Governments and Corporations will become customers and vendors of eachother, but to the end users the product is free, because they themselves are the product.

Ironic that when viewing that page, I got interrupted by a third-party "pop-up" (not really a pop-up) blocking the whole page until I closed with it.

Yup. SD Times definitely does their part to be as annoying as possible with those.

Yes, I stop clicking on some stuff that looks interesting because it just takes too much time. Have done these quizzes and it is just ridiculous.
One of the reasons I really liked the idea of Silverlight was that it should have sped up browsing since processing can be local, and all that is needed is to send data back and forth once loading of the app was done.

End of last year I mentioned we wanted to provide an API for you to really investigate GC/managed memory related performance called GLAD. Well, the source finally got opened source on github. "I'm so glad I'm so glad I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad "
Because the garbage collector sometimes doesn't

If you are interested in this topic, there is a very interesting series of articles, and blogs, here on CodeProject postred by Matt Warren recently. You can see this list of his articles here: [^]. Blogs here: [^].
I like Matt's clear writing and his "scientific-experimental" approach.
«There is a spectrum, from "clearly desirable behaviour," to "possibly dodgy behavior that still makes some sense," to "clearly undesirable behavior." We try to make the latter into warnings or, better, errors. But stuff that is in the middle category you don’t want to restrict unless there is a clear way to work around it.» Eric Lippert, May 14, 2008

In fact most of the code I wrote for Visualising the .NET Garbage Collector[^] can now be replaced by the GLAD library, pity it wasn't available at the time (although I guess I wouldn't have learnt as much)!
