Deciding how to route information fairly and efficiently through a distributed system with no central authority was a priority for the Internet's founders. Full of naughty images and conflicting ideas?

According to well-placed sources, IBM's Software and Systems unit began a transition similar to the marketing department's upheaval late last year, with remote workers told they would have to move and work at one of a handful of city offices, or find a new job. " The tenants arrive here and are carried along the corridor on a conveyor belt in extreme comfort, past murals depicting Mediterranean scenes, towards the rotating knives."

I've had several friends who were unfortunate enough to work for IBM in the past. They all said that "IBM" stands for I've Been Moved. Management regularly forces employees to move so they won't make any friends. It's a ghastly company.

Don't know the source of the quote, but it reminds me of a scene from "Ice Pirates" (I think that's the name of the movie).

The dates on all Windows drivers are set to June 21, 2006. The version number increases over time, but the timestamp stays put. "It's an awesome example of something that seems stupid and insignificant turning out to have a profound purpose." - the new Microsoft corporate motto

That actually makes a lot of sense. Good job M$.

So simply versioning drivers was too hard? Or having a bit of logic that pushed Microsoft drivers below 3rd party drivers in the case of a tie?
The mind boggles.

Funny blog article.
It's like a "Hey, your company isn't the only one doing stupid stuff. Look at what we did at M$".
Maybe I really don't want to know all those things that I've always wondered about M$.
It's Sausage-Code. I don't want to know how it got that way.

I supposed there are third parties which didn't bother setting the version or did it wrong. There's a lot of defensive stuff like that in Windows.

So maybe it's time to simply ban bad drivers. Get it right or leave the island.

Yes, but what about the computer issue?

Quote: ...Intentionally backdating the drivers avoids this problem. It means that if you have a custom manufacturer-provided driver, it will retain priority over the Windows-provided driver. So that's why there are no complaints about Windows overriding drivers! Sarcasm to 11!

You guys over there make about twice the money I make (if not more).
However, my schooling was paid for the most part by the government. Debt when I got out of school was $0.
We have at least 20 paid free days (not counting about 10 holidays, and most people have more anyway). I have 25 + 10 from holidays.
When I get sick I get free (or cheap) healthcare (at the cost of about $80 a month). Also, my employer keeps paying my full salary for a few months, then a little less, and then the government takes over (or something like that).
When I get unemployed I get government money (after my boss paid me first).
Job security is pretty high here anyway, I probably couldn't be fired if I took a sh*t on my boss' desk!
I'm insured for practically everything (except health and car) for about $10 a month.
When I get old I get even more money.
Canada has something like that if I'm not mistaken.
What does America have, except higher salaries in some sectors?
In the end it all plays out I guess

Yeah sure, Europe, with its many countries, diverse cultures and rich history is London and Paris.
This is North America + 5 cities from 4 countries. That's not global at all (unless you're an American I guess)

It's vaguely more global than their "world series", I suppose.
