In your first schema you should change the xmlns:gns="http://localhost/XMLWebServices/GeneralFormatting.xsd" to xmlns="http://localhost/XMLWebServices/GeneralFormatting.xsd" so that all types declared are in that namespace, otherwise you would have to put the gns prefix on all type names...

I would hope anyone can help me understand a certain problem I am currently having with a small piece of code. I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some ideas on how I could structure my XSL template to produce an output similar to the following table given the attached Test.xml source. I seem to be using for-each and the priority attribute but cant pinpoint where to place it correctly.
View the Test.xml source at :
http://www.angelfire.com/pro/atbgmxsl/Test.xml
Required result in table format is :
ASXCode Company Name Company Statistics/Interim Dates Annual Balance Sheet/Cash
RWS Rothbury Wines Limited -- 99,000
OCO Oriel Communications Limited 12/2002 97,065
NRL Newland Resources Limited 12/2002 95,143

Just a quick shot at it
<table>
<xsl:for-each select="root/ResultSet/Record">
<tr>
<xsl:for-each select="Column">
<td><xsl:value-of select="." /></td>
</xsl:for-each>
</tr>
</xsl:for-each>

I’m creating my first web service and running into the following error.
A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.WebException' occurred in system.dll
Additional information: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
The error occurs in the Reference.vb file when I try to retrieve a string value from a function in the asmx file. Here is some of the code from the Reference.vb file.
<br />
<System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapDocumentMethodAttribute("http://localhost/XMLWebServices/ReturnValue", RequestNamespace:="http://localhost/XMLWebServices ", ResponseNamespace:="http://localhost/ XMLWebServices ", Use:=System.Web.Services.Description.SoapBindingUse.Literal, ParameterStyle:=System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapParameterStyle.Wrapped)> _<br />
Public Function ReturnValue() As String<br />
Dim results() As Object = Me.Invoke("ReturnValue", New Object(-1) {})<br />
Return CType(results(0), String)<br />
End Function<br />
The web method in the asmx file looks like the following.
<WebMethod()> Public Function ReturnValue() As String<br />
ReturnValue = "Value"<br />
End Function<br />
All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The first problem is you are using VB.NET
You still haven't said what the user is searching. Nodes, attributes, text???
Do some research on XPath.

lol.......yea i don't like it that much either but im tryin to learn it

in c#:
String searchTerm = "hello, world";<br />
String queryString = "//*[contains('" + searchTerm + "')]";<br />
XmlNodeList results = document.SelectNodes(queryString);
"When the only tool you have is a hammer, a sore thumb you will have."
|
|
|
|
|
as you can see i translated it to vb:
Dim searchTerm As String = "hello, world"<br />
Dim results As XmlNodeList<br />
Dim queryString As String = "//*[contains('" & searchTerm & "')]"<br />
Dim xmldoc As New XmlDocument()<br />
xmldoc.Load("guestbook.xml")<br />
results = xmldoc.DocumentElement.SelectNodes(queryString)<br />
Response.Write(results)
but why do i keep gettin this error:
Function 'contains' in '//*[contains(bug)]' has invalid number of arguments.
also how else can i write it out other than response.write
thanks for the help

I've dealt with XML and XSLT quite a bit, but I'm somewhat new to XML schemas.
I want to define a document structure in XML. I want most of the document to be strictly defined, but I want a certain type of element to be able to contain any type and combination of XML data. How do I do this?
Also, does anyone know of a good source of free info/tutorials on XML Schemas?

Hi everyone,
I'm developing C# application that uses XML as its file format, and XSLT as its rendering engine. It is basically a specialized application of the XML/XSLT document model. The document can be displayed directly in a browser, and is edited in a WebBrowser control.
Now, my question is: how should I go about designing the document model?
DOCUMENT
should it be 1) a sub-class inherited from XmlDocument, with extended capabilities, or 2) a class containing an XmlDocument object. I tend to think the former, but what do you guys think?
NODES
There are different kinds of nodes representing various different types of objects in the document. It would be nice to be able to edit them without directly using the XmlNode "interface" - in other words, through a wrapper. However, since the document is being directly edited in a browser control, the document must be able to be rendered as XML at any time - therefore it must be closely tied to the XML object model. How would you go about this? Would it be workable to create a sub-class for each type of object in the document, inheriting from XmlNode?
Any educated advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Justin Dunlap
