Google has been willing to acknowledge the existence of its Fuchsia operating system for a while, and has made rough versions available on everything from mobile devices to PCs. Just in time for a new government to fine them

I love the fact that the Update effectively demolishes the whole story. That's class journalism.

Warp 10 not fast enough for you? (what with it being instantaneously at all locations in the Universe).

Smelling a coffee-like scent, which has no caffeine in it, creates an expectation for students that they will perform better on tests I love the smell of integrals in the morning
This study smells like something else to me though.

Why does this article make me remember this song ? [^], while thinking of Kent Sharkey makes me remember this: [^] ?
«... thank the gods that they have made you superior to those events which they have not placed within your own control, rendered you accountable for that only which is within you own control For what, then, have they made you responsible? For that which is alone in your own power—a right use of things as they appear.» Discourses of Epictetus Book I:12

The company has decided they're no longer needed because express updates can fill the bill. The delta updates will end in February 2019. Mental note: upgrade bandwidth

Hackers use programs to apply stolen data in a flood of login attempts, called “credential stuffing.” These days, more than 90% of e-commerce sites’ global login traffic comes from these attacks. The airline and consumer banking industries are also under siege, with about 60% of login attempts coming from criminals. "How do we turn them into customers?", asks the CFO

At least things are much better now. In the old days hackers would just try and login to the site. Now they have to clear a cookie warning, a GDPR warning, an ad-block warning, a "allow notifications" warning, a newsletter subscription dialog....and only then can they try and login.

In less than a year, Microsoft will end support for SQL Server 2008, meaning no more updates and no more support, but perhaps more problems on the security and compliance fronts for organizations that don't migrate to newer options. SELECT problems FROM my_database WHERE queryrunat >= DateAdd(yy, 1, GetDate())
I imagine there are more than a few people affected by this one.

Tech leaders, including Elon Musk and the three co-founders of Google’s AI subsidiary DeepMind, have signed a pledge promising to not develop “lethal autonomous weapons.” Did anyone check for crossed fingers?

Does that include a Tesla?

I also pledge not to develop any "lethal autonomous weapons".

The European Commission said the firm had used the mobile operating system to illegally "cement its dominant position" in search. "Pretty soon you're talking about real money"

Darn google, illegally creating software that people might actually want to use vs creating a bare bones operating system and letting every Tom, Dick and Harry write irrelevant software...which they already do. Its called the google store.

Google and Microsoft get sued and fined while there's really only one company who refuses to work with standards or allow their consumers to work with anything that's not strictly approved by themselves.
Yeah, you know who I'm talking about.
I guess it's ok for them because they only have the second biggest smartphone market share in the world and the biggest for tablets
As if creating iTunes isn't reason enough to sue them they're also forcing their poor users to use it

And I'm sure that company has absolutely nothing to do with this decision.
