When we get the "multiuser" attacks we got this morning, how about a "protector only" option in S&A? Three protectors hit it and everything goes directly to moderation until it's lifted?
If they don't get it visible, there is no incentive to post more, so hopefully it might bring it down to manageable levels without too much hassle, and without inconveniencing other members too badly? Plus, it feeds the actual spam directly to the detector so it should learn quicker to identify the new format rather than waiting for messages to be closed?

I presume that the two links to codeproject as plain text within the body of the message have something to say about it

How many spam reports does it currently need to flag the user?

Item: 5
User: 10
Why? Because some idiots decided that if they couldn't downvote what they didn't like, they'd close the account of the poster.

I'm trying to report every post, but I feel I might be the one spamming here. And on some posts, I see only 2 or 3 reports. That could be one of the reasons they're not moderated yet.

I just did 6 pages on the S&A clicking every one and give the last hit to a bunch of items. But still they are creating them faster than we can act. So... we need to wait for the big hammers and the "cleaning up the mess" actions from the staff

I'm seeing this suggestion almost 10th time and this is the most effective solution,IMHO. However, i think Site owners are not interested enough to implement this.
Let's see how it goes this time.
Try to find out fool in a deal. If you can't find one, it's you.

Thanks7872 wrote: Site owners are not interested enough On the contrary, the team do everything possible to keep the site usable. However, at the same time they want to make it welcoming to new users. Not easy to cater for every possible combination of circumstances.

Whatever you mean it is unfair to accuse them of not doing enough.

Saying "Someone is not INTERESTED enough" is not equal to accusing someone. I'm not sure why a very simple thought is being stretched without a point.

Why just protectors whatever they are? Are the rest of us irrelevant?

No, but protectors are a "special group" - we have higher privileges that most members, like access to the moderation queue. If it was open to all, then it's open to accidents / abuse.

pwasser wrote: Why just protectors whatever they are? Are the rest of us irrelevant? No, you are not irrelevant, and without your help we (protectors) could not manage the waves. But "normal" users can be simulated by the spammers as well, the badge of protector is given personally by CP to 100% human people "trusted" by the staff, so the flag protector is something easy to check by the system and difficult / impossible to bypass by spammers.

Ok, maybe the wrong place to ask. But nevertheless, what are the requirements to become a protector?

Chris and I pick them, based on a number of factors including trust, a user's history with the site, demeanor, etc.

Agreed.
Again, three protectors (or one staff)?
If we can turn it on relatively quickly, keep it on until the detector picks 'em up, then turn it off "to see what happens" it should help.
How long did it last yesterday after the detector cut in?
