My daughter uses a noise cancelling Sony WH-1000X and "can't live without it".
I personally use a beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO (only closed, not noise cancelling) and have no problem wearing it for hours.

We have an open office for "cross-pollination of ideas and to encourage social interaction" (they don't and it doesn't).
In my experience, noise cancelling headphones work for every voice except those you need to drown out most, those voices still penetrate and due to all the lovely noise cancellation they are even more emphasised in their annoyance.
Music turned down low does a better job but then you can't hear things that are really important. Like someone shouting "free cakes" or the fire alarm.

We have a pretty quiet environment at work, but I sometimes pipe a 90 minute pink noise loop (in .WAV format) at a low volume through my ears. It's very soothing and less distracting than any form of music. If you like I can make it available to you.

I was halfway through adding the survey, on the iPad, and accidentally hit the "Go" button. Bam, a half-formed survey goes live.
Lesson learned.

I'm kind of in this camp, prefer just silence.
The last place I worked, when I first got there, us developers were in our own space. That was kind of nice, somebody would turn on a streaming service at a nice volume for some background. So I guess I don't mind music.
If anyone has that kind of setup, I encourage you to make it democratic: let each person take a turn on picking the genre/channel/whatever.
Who knows, you might get introduced to something you like but would never have heard of otherwise.
