Member 7989122 concluded: If this was something happening in China, we would be holding it up as a totalitarian dictatorship's constant monitoring of its entire population. But it happens here, in the free Western world, and therefore it is a great aid for police to make life safer for everybody.)
And now the Chinese version: If this was something happening in the US, we would be holding it up as a deceitful dictatorship's constant monitoring of its entire population. But it happens here, in the Chinese Democratic Republic, and therefore it is a great aid for police to make life safer for everybody.) So, for politicians and patriots, the grass is always greener on their side of the fence?

Creating descriptions of our own society as it might appear, seen from "the other side", can be an enlightening experience.
"The other side" can be anything - China, "which we call Red China", is just one of many. Try to set yourself in the position of some moral crusader (unless you are one yourself ). A fundamentalist Christian. A prepper (unless you are one yourself). Whatever. Just try to find all the arguments and justifications that stands in clear opposition to your own (or your society's) views. Search for arguments that your real self cannot counter.
If you are really, really afraid of having your views and possible misconceptions challenged, you should of course refrain. But if you dare to go into the hard arguments and view of those you oppose, it may strengthen you. And, of course, you may end up adjusting your views somewhat.

That wasn't actually what the boy suggested.
They had just fired his dad, so he said they should name it after him.
Because he was young, and trying to sound knowledgeable, he used the phrase "per severence".

What would it take these days to build a prototype of a new language and operating system built on top of it, just for fun? "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe."

I really don't see how that applies in this case. He's embarking on a project for experimentation, learning and fun. I don't see that he has any expectation of actual adoption.

The Unity3D engine features a capability where developers can edit the code for their program, hit “play” and observe the changes right away, without a visible compilation step. C# code is compiled and executed immediately inside the Unity editor in a seamless way. Because we will never learn the problem of attaching a powerful scripting tool to our applications

C# 8 finally gives us the ability to express whether a variable shouldn’t be null, and when it can be null. Coming soon: null? and void?
Because you never know when you might wonder if something might just be null and/or void.
