An economic reason is a good reasong! I didn't think of that one.. 
But what if everyone depends on you and you fail to find a proper solution, wouldn't you be the one to be in trouble?

In both A) and C) you stand out. Likely you will be canned unless you are really liked by the boss.
In B) you are just one of the crowd. All things aside you are just as likely to go as anyone else.
In situation C) you have no opportunity to grow your knowledge because everyone around you is sucking yours up. In B) you never grow your knowledge because everyone is at the same level. In A) you have mentors that can teach you new things which allow you to broaden your career options.

You allways have more work than you could possibly do but I still do spend some time growing my knoledge by this using site and reading books. Currently I have been spending some time each day learning C#.

Conclusion: No situation is perfect! In other words, every situation has it's up's and down's.
So far people find it more interesting to learn than the teach...

The question is what to understand under word smarter.
if it is more knowlegeble. Than personally for me there are choises:
First is that i can learn and improve my own skills from people hwo
has more experience than i.
But else if i am working in a society where every person
equal in his/her abilities than we have perfect conditions for
competition on professional(and sad thing - not only) level.
Pure competition is a blessing, not only for yourself.
The final choise was hard, but for now i prefer first point.
And if you mean by word smarter - intelligent.
Than it is twice hard question. One person can beter solve
differential equotions the other person may be guru on electronics
or for example on programming and so on(Maybe not the best comparison).
I do not know how to classifize people by their intelligence.
And if ever anyone will know this for sure, AI wont be a problem

Technically better or more intelligent?
A programmer that is better than me, is not necessarily more intelligent than me.
But a more intelligent person, is not necessarily a better programmer than I am.
I like to work with intelligent people.

I agree you have to make the distinction here.
Personally, I'd rather be towards the top in both areas. When you are the "smartest", you can get bombarded with every little issue and you have nothing to aspire to.
Give me technical competence and intelligence and I'll give you a great team!

If you get bombard with every little issue, wouldn't it be a smart thing to do to redirect them to CP;). Almost every little issue can be found in the articles, tutorials, f.a.q., ...

Very well said. Like having a girlfriend who is smarter than you... you can be the big man and say you don't mind, but every now and then you rebel against that notion and wish for a simpler girl.
Though in practice I reckon the agony is worth it in the long run.

Have it seen in another IT company: The smart, but quiet ones (who did the work in the projects) in the development team were layed off and they kept the not so smart, who were able to claim the success of the projects. The company went down the river a year later ...
Personally I like to work with people as smart as myself, all taking equal part in the success of the projects we are working on.
