It's free and everyone (relevant to my situation) is using it.
Like a .pdf format and Adobe: you use it because it's used. It's used because people use it

I recommend retiring and not dealing with meetings, video or otherwise.
I'm going to try that, starting Saturday. Pretty good chance I won't be attending any meetings before then.
That being said, Teams seems to work pretty well for us.
I'm wondering what people think about organizations' reactions to this extended WFH. I wonder if the commercial real estate market will decline (for example), because companies will realize "hey, we don't need to rent out a huge space."
Think there's any interest in a new thread to talk about how companies will change post-pandemic?

We use Amazon Chime, but it isn't worthy of recommending. Maybe why it was left off of the list.

It's Disney's platform of choice. I agree though - it's an awful name!

We used a tool called Free Conference Call[^].
Allows recording and provides 1 GB free storage. As and when you reach that limit, you've to download the recorded videos to your local drive, and free up space on their cloud.

Any video conferencing tool, which can be hosted on your very own server, without any company fishing for contact details or even content in between...

MS Teams and Cisco WebEx for work because that's the company's choice.
Jitsi Meet for friends and family because it's open-source.

We've played around with that briefly, and I do like the open source / self host aspect of it. My little laptop seems to get a little noisy after a few minutes though.

What happened to hating all MS products?
Though I have to say the TV ads are annoying, so I'd probably avoid trying Teams if I had the option ...

We use Teams at work and the AV is always excellent whether I'm on a desktop or using my phone. It's the first time I've never had a problem with one of these video conferencing apps.
I'm sure they'll screw it up somehow.

My experience is the opposite -- we consistently have audio problems. It works adequately for everything except audio.
Makes me wonder what there is in our environment that is messing things up.

Not far behind is Skype, which is also an MS product.

Well ... a "bought by MS" product.
They normally quietly let those die after they have properly bloated and bugged it. Give them time ... they aren't as efficient at "bloat and add bugs" as Corel, but they are a close second!

If you have ever used them, it's fairly obvious that Teams was built on the Skype code base. But the quality of Teams video chat is definitely superior to Skype, although that could be just because MS has devoted more compute and bandwidth resources to Teams.

for AV meetings, Teams has turned out to be better than all the other methods I've been subjected to over the past few months.
i despise it for everything else. but as a video meeting tool, it's pretty good.

Well Code Project is an MS-centric site, so I'm not surprised.
Yeah, we all grumble about MS - until we try alternatives and find they suck even more...
