Quote: ... Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering at Apple says that Microsoft has everything it needs to make Windows 10 for Arm to run natively on SoCs like the M1.
"That's really up to Microsoft," said Federighi. "We have the core technologies for them to do that, to run their ARM version of Windows, which in turn of course supports x86 user mode applications. But that's a decision Microsoft has to make, to bring to license that technology for users to run on these Macs. But the Macs are certainly very capable of it."

The Github Archive Program aims to preserve historically relevant pieces of open source software to allow future software developers to see how the community built and reviewed code. How did you compile code, Grandpa?

The Internet Archive is now emulating Flash animations, games and toys in our software collection. I wonder if they're archiving the need to update every day as well?

Or that it can easily be contaminated?

you have to throw away half of it everyday, or you will run out of places to keep it?
(and you should probably just keep it in the fridge until you need it. iOt!)

Why couldn't the M1 chip have been an Intel chip? Selling a metric boatload of chips?

Wow.. there is a new chip maker on the block with impressive toys?!
Damn, I want to run Windows on it!

But can it run Crysis?

No, can it run DOOM?

Apple's M1 doesn't have 40 years of backward compatibility to contend with.
Any program written for an 8088 forty years ago can still run on the latest Intel CPU (assuming it is in the correct mode). Try that with other CPUs (if you can find them).

Once you code-kiddies get it out if your mind that computers were invented by Intel (CPUs on a chip, yes), you will realize that the IBM 360 series (designed in the early 1960s) has been code-compatible through it's various incarnations.
As are all the few remaining mainframe manufacturers. I guess the only one left is Unisys.
And if you take into account emulators, the IBM 360 could run even IBM 1401 assembler!
|
|
|
|
|
That was never in anyone's mind. Get over yourself. When one can buy a 360 series CPU in a laptop you might have a point. Might.

And how many computers capable of running System/360 assembler language have you seen around recently? Emulators don't count; we're discussing hardware here.
