Hello there,
I used ASP.NET to develop some web applications. I want to design a web page now, but not sure how to get it done, what's the procedures? Can anybody advise me where I can find the tutorials for web page design and how to get it published, etc? Thanks!

Anyone familiar with MSGRAPH.Chart?
I'm trying to write a script that generates a GIF on the fly based on values passed in as parameters. Basically I'm trying to reproduce the blue/pink used/free disk space pie chart shown in Explorer's drive properties.
Just about everything's fine, except that the exported GIF *always* has a white border around it, and no property I've found seems to get rid of it. The documentation (graph9.chm from Office 2000, off the top of my head) is worthless. I can email the HTML file (3KB) to anyone who cares to take a shot at it; I'd post it here but embedding HTML in these HTML-based forums isn't really a good idea.
My email is danield3_@_themail.com (remove the two underscores)...I'd be more than happy to post the results here once the problem is worked out.

Hello, I am trying to write a simple javascript function. I want to read in the values of heading nodes in an HTML document and then make a list of them. I want to then use this to make a template which contains a menu which can update the navigation bar depending on the html content. the code I used is
var headings1 = getElementsbyType('h1');
then I tried to access the element to produce a list using a for loop
var temp ="<p>"
for (i=0; i<headings1.childNodes.length;i++)
{
temp += headings1.childNodes[i].data;
}
temp += "<\/p>"
to make a list something like
NO. of H1s
firstchild
secondchild
etc..
No. of H2s
etc etc..
I''m quite new to DHTML, can anyone spot what I'm doing wrong?
thanks(or suggest a good tutorial?)
Andy

Check out Microsoft's Documentation[^] on getElementsByTagName().
This is in the W3C's DOM Level 1 ... always a good thing to use standards.
Get the elements:
var headings1 = document.body.getElementsByTagName("H1");
Show the length:
alert(headings1.length);
Show the list:
for (var i = 0; i < headings1.length; i++) {
alert(headings1.childNodes[i].nodeValue);
}

I try to localize my web application. When I put the French resource file
in Visual Studio.NET 2002 to generate the satellite assembly then it works.
But if I use Resgen and Al tool to generate the satellite assembly then it does not work. I use ILDASM tool to investigate them and I see the difference is
1. The satellite assembly is built by Visual Studio.NET:
.mresource public 'CustomControls.CustomControlResources.fr-FR.resources'
{
}
2. The satellite assembly is built by Resgen and Al tools:
.mresource public CustomControls.CustomControlResources.fr-FR.resources
{
}
Could you please help me to generate a satellite assembly using Resgen and
Al tools the same as Visual Studio .NET 2002 does (having quote characters)?
Thanks in advance.

I want to upload some image files to the web server dynamically from my webpage.I have a folder in webserver with write permission.But when i try to upload the file it asks for password each time .Pleas help me what to do with
source code.Its very urgent

Make sure the asp.net account has write permission.

Just a wild guess...
Are you using HTTP or FTP for upload?
Are you running a Apache or windows server?
If your running an Apache and maybe windows(i'm not sure) you might wanna make sure your .htaccess file isn't causing this password prompt.
Just remove the file period should do the trick.

You need to provide a bit more detail here. What version of IIS are you running? On what version of Windows? And when do you get the "unable to connect to target machine" message? I got that message on my Win2K server using InterDev to build web pages, until I realized that I have to give myself authoring rights on the web server. You may be dealing with a similar problem, but there's no way to tell from the question as posted.

Hi,
I am using IIS 5.0 on WINDOWS 2000 Professional Server,I get the "Unable to Connect to Target Machine" error when i manually open the Internet Services Manager Page,where the default ftp,web,smtp resides and none of the web pages are opening.
waiting for a response!!

When you open ISM, does it display (stopped) beside the default ftp, web, and smtp services? If so, did you try starting them? If not, are you sure you have permissions set correctly to allow full access? Highlight the service in ISM, then right-click and check the properties.
When I first tried IIS5.0, it was on a Win2K Pro installation, and I did not have automatic rights to edit and publish, even though I was the Administrator. That permission had to be manually set. Once I did so, FrontPage and InterDev had no trouble connecting to the server.

Notepad Just kidding, any text editor with syntax highlighting will do. I'd recommend the shareware EditPlus[^]. I think they have a trial version on their web site.

He'll probably want to get their ASP.NET plugin, too - it's helpful when doing ASP.NET.

Hi:
But the syntax colorizer is the most useful stuff.
I think in the beta there was some provision for CommandPrompt Applications via the Active Window. In that case, you can plugin csc.exe with the Active Window to compile. Is'nt it? I have'nt used this feature anyway but perhaps should be a useful feature.

Definitely, but if that was all, I'd just use Scite.

Yeah, they have a plugin that can compile and run a C# app, but it seems to be limited to only one file. I use this occasionally, when I don't want to use as much resources as SharpDevelop takes, but until they get project support, references support, etc, it won't be too useful.

Macromedia has a product called Studio MX. One of the modules is Dreamweaver which is pretty good. I tried it for ASP which was better then Visual Interdev.
I am sure, this version is good for ASP.net also. Check this link

Hope it helps. Happy programming

OK, this is kind of a rant...
I am currently writing a web app using MSDev 6 technology. That includes VBScript for the ASP pages, Java Script for client-side scripting, and C++ for components.
Obviously, there is an inefficiency in using multiple languages for development. For example, my VBscript never compiles because I keep putting ; at the end of each line.
Just out of curiousity, is there any web environment, such as .NET, where you can use a single language for all development? As I understand it, client-side scripting can only be done in Java Script, (or maybe if Netscape support is required) which would mean that Java or Java Script would have to be used on the server side. That is the only single language environment I can think of.

I would say sticking to c# would be the way to go. JavaScript and C# have similar syntax requirements, ie the ;
