I have to print the text directly to the printer. If i share this usb printer on the network and do the following in my prog:
hP = CreateFile("\\mycomp\hpusbprn", ...);
WriteFile(hP, "aaa",...);
(where "mycomp" -- network name of my computer, "hpusbprn" - network name of the printer) it works fine -- printer prints "aaa" emulating text mode. How to make the string with the name of printer for "CreateFile" buf without sharing printer?

Does anyone here have problem with Windows 2000's Fonts after installing SP4?!
It was working fine since I installed SP4 for my Win 2000 machine!
Always,

Sorry, none that I have noticed so far. I am still in controlled depolyment of SP4, but I have 6 servers running it and about 30 workstations and so far no funny business.

My mate has a puzzling problem, that I wonder if anyone can help him with please....
He has a 2000Pro machine with an Epson Stylus Colour 900 printer with the latest drivers. When he boots his machine he always get two tiny windows appearing in the top right of the screen. Only the title bars appear, and they both have the title "explrr printer spooler". They do not dissapear and he has to close them himself.
Anyone know what's causing this and how to stop it please?
By googling I found someone thinks it may be a torjan virus. Any thoughts
Ta for any help at all.

In an active directory environment with romaing profiles is there an easy way to have a log out script?? My problem is that the Admin accounts get cluttered with 100s of megabytes of stuff that seems to never go away because an admin is always logged in somewhere. You can trim the profile but it will come back when you log back in. This is really driving me nuts...

No problem, let me know how it works. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet myself.

Ok. It may be awhile because I am behind several deadlines and I have to spend less time on network administration...

I'm having pretty much the same problem as described below with win2k. A fresh install of XP and I can't get the internet connection to work. On reboot ipconfig returns values of 0.0.0.0 and the status of the network reads that it is sending data but not receiving any packets.
clicking the repair option on the network connection returns the same error as well.
And it's not the network card as a pcmcia network card behaves in exactly the same way.
Of course msdn doesn't admit that this is an error that ipconfig can give.
Any ideas?

O.K. I figure it's definately some hardware has just decided to break for no apparent reason. As Windows XP Prof, Home, Win2k and Suse 8 all fail to obtain an ip address for the network card.
[edit]
Strangely enough it's only linux that refuses to start because of the problem. No blue screen of death but there's a definate hanging situation going on.

I haven't been able to connect to CP all morning. Pinging works great - resolves the address correctly. Tracert also works, using the domain name, not the address, and correctly returns the IP. I tried all three of my ISP's DNS servers using nslookup, and all return www.codeproject.com.mydomain.com along with my own IP address. I used Ping to enumerate all of the individual servers I know of at CP, and used the address of Web2 just to get here and post this question! Even navigating using the CP base IP address returns "DNS Error or Cannot Find Server" - sheesh! Oddly, this happens only for CP - every other site I visit works perfectly. Any ideas or explanations?

I'm having the same problem. I am currently bypassing it by using my univerisities proxy server which is a pain for various reasons.

1 year ago I did dual boot install for Windows NT 4 SP 5 and Windows XP Pro on 2 different partitions C & D
This worked fine for about 1 year, I did GHOST backups of the partitions & re-installed from ghost images a few times
all works fine !!!
then about 1 month ago I added USB PCI card & had to do some WXP hardware install crap
and now I get goofy error messages from NT AUTHORITY (or something) saying bug in RPC, system shutdown in 60 seconds
this is modeless popup & yes system does shut down !!!
i rebooted
then I noticed a new proc MSBLAST.EXE in task-mgr, found 2 new files in WINNT\SYSTEM32
MSBLAST.EXE
and some DBL file (I'm on NT now & can't see the FAT32 drive for WXP)
and then rebooting WXP asked me to "register" my OS because it changed
NOW THE DAMN THING KEEPS REBOOTING BECAUSE OF THIS MSBLAST/RPC failure crap !!!
Is is a virus or just of bug in MS auto-check anti-virus stuff ?
I know MS has some security that checks HW config, but I re-registered & this still happening.
Even after I reinstalled clean images from GHOST....
It's like the MS security code is working well enough to detect my HW changes, but then it craps out & prevents WXP from running
I tried GOOGLE MSDN CP for MSBLAST but no luck......
any ideas besides re-installing everything from scratch ??

Weird, I read your post earlier and wasn't able to respond (short of googling the 'net, which you claim to have done), and lo and behold my ISP just sent out an email about Win32.Blaster.Worm, which more info at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html
. Hope that helps!

I think that's it !! Now I wonder how it got onto my PC ??
To fix it so far, I yanked my USB PCI card & re-installed from ghost images. Maybe the USB PCI install did something funny.....
Thanks again !!

This is a worm, so either it was in the driver software (VERY unlikely) or it came through something attached to the USB hub, like a USB NIC. Do you have something like that? This is a problem especially if you're on an ISP such as DSL or cable modem where a great majority of the users shouldn't even own a computer and are wide open for attack.
