I would like to know where I can find implementations (if at all) of inter-process (real inter-process - between different processes) synchronization mechanisms besides System.Threading.Mutex (through using named mutex).
Especially, are there any implementations of something like ReaderWriterLock?
Of course, one can try to implement by himself such things using named mutexes, but though it seems simple, nothing is simple when it comes to multi-threading synchronization...
Thank you.

Hi there,
I'm looking for the best way to send log files over the Internet. These logfiles contain EventViewer lists and Backup logs. On the Client Side I want to build an application getting this data and putting it into a XML File. On the Server Side I want to "read" the XML file and put it into a Database. These logs are comming from Customers, so the only way to communicate is through the Internet.
What do you all think it's a good solution for this problem? How must i get these log files from the client side to the server side (our Main Office)
E-mail, .XML Webservices, .NET remoting.
I'm new to .NET so I need some help to decide witch architecture is the best.
Of course I don't want to change the fysicall Network Infrastructure of the customers. Anyone an Idea?
Thanx in Advance,
Joost, the Netherlands

.XML Webservice seems to be the best solution for your business. You can build a web service that takes a dataset as argument. This web service would process this dataset and store it in your database. On the client side, you would build a windows app that reads EventViewer lists and Backup logs or whatever you require. The windows app would gather all this data in a dataset and call the web service passing in the dataset.

Is it possible to run a GDI+ application on a windows 98 machine? Perhaps theres an update or something can be installed on the clients machine? Or is it strictly win2k/me+ ?
Thanks

Yes. I've run and created a number of different GDI+ apps, and I am using Windows 98.

If you are talking about .NET apps, yes.
If you are talking about C++ apps, you need to download gdi+ dlls from Microsoft and install them in Win98 machine before running the app.

Open up a command prompt and navigate to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
now run:
aspnet_regiis -i
IIS 5.1 should now be using ASP.NET 1.1

I have a remote object hosted by windows service, and I only want the client on the same machine to access it. Since a port is opened for this server and client, how can I prevent someone on the network getting this port and do sth?
I don't want to use firewall.
Can custom channel sink's encryption and authentication do this?

Hi All,
I'm trying to get a modeless windows form to display over a Win32 application (Excel actually). I've been able to do this with a modal dialog by wrapping Excel's hWnd into the IWin32Window interface and passing it to the ShowDialog method of the form.
Unfortunately the Show() method of the form has no such constructor and I have not been able to find anything in the Form class which allows for the window owner/parent to be set.
Is the solution as simple as calling SetParent from the Win32 API? Is there another way to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Hello buddies,
as it is my first post on codeproject.com accept my warm regards and best wishes, I hope to be a good friend here.
I wonder why there is no suitable built-in feature neither in Visual Studio .NET install project nor somewhere else (that I know) which can determine all pre-required softwares on the user's PC & install them before installing the main .NET application. ok I know about bootStrap program but it seems to have bugs and doesn't work perfect in all situations
well, can anybuddy tell me why Microsoft itself didn't include such a critical tool in it's Visual Studio .NET?
Thanks for your notes,
- nSun

Because they can't be expected to do everything, and they even stated that they didn't want to close the doors for third-party development. This was something third party library developers started complaining about during the early stages of .NET (stating that it contained too much in the BCL, which is another reason that some controls really suck, IMO).
Bootstrap programs are actually easier to write than you think. If the dependencies are managed, you don't even need a bootstrap program other than to check for Windows Installer 2.0, then the .NET Framework (of the appropriate version), then start the installation routine (note, don't do this by using CreateProcess on msiexec.exe - actually call the functions in the MSI API, which only require a couple calls to get the process started correctly). Just install the dependent assemblies in the GAC (or wherever is appropriate, such as the app path). Some dependencies (such as Crystal Reports) already have merge modules (MSMs) that you can include in your installer and not have to worry about it.
While I'm on the topic, most people don't know that including the .NET MSM in your installer project DOES NOT install the CLR - the MSM is only to satisfy VS.NET's urge to add MSMs automatically to satisfy early-bound dependencies (which is why it's disabled when added). This is just FYI.

I do the drawing with GDI+.
what would happen if I draw on a bitmap with a minus-coordinate-point
Does the drawing methods still be called or the GDI+ just ignores this?
thanks
|
|
|
|
|
GDI+ just draws anyway, and anything outside of the bitmap is simply not visible.

Well, if you really can't write one yourself, maybe you can wait 2 or 3 months until the FLUID UI Toolkit team creates a combo box. We've just gotten a SourceForge account, but it won't be listed for a day or two yet.
