Hello,
I am trying to make VC++ 6.0 Intellisense more "intelligent", by supplying to it a collection of .ncb files I've created, that contain definitions for my classes (Symbian C++), as Intellisense relies on these files (C/C++ databases as they're internally called) in order to provide code completion (list members, parameter info, etc).
The problem is that even if I place the files in the MSDev98/Common/Bin folder and create the proper registry values for them (do a search in your registry for WIN32.NCB and you'll find the right keys), the IDE does not use them.
Is there a FREE plugin that will allow me to do simple code completion; I do not want all the bell and whistles Visual Assist has nor I have the money to buy it.
Many thanks in advance.

Best Regards,
Manos S. Pappás

Most of you dont know, but there is a good alternative to Crystal Reports. Active Reports (AR) is a similar product, with the enormous advantage of NO ROYALTIES per application!!! The drawback is that there is no VC++ suport or examples, although you can use it through the ActiveX components and the COM interfaces. Also it works wonderfull with VB, VB.Net, C# and everything that uses Windows Forms.
My request/Idea:
For those who want to implement it in pure VC++ non-managed enviroment, the task is difficult. I have already working code for the viewer, with Bound and Unbound data. Currently im stuck with the designer(yes, u can include a report designer with NO ROYALTIES).
I dont write myself an article with what i have so far, cause my COM knowledge isnt the best and i dont think i can explain it well. So... i would ask you fellow mates if you could help me writting an article AND, most important, help me and everybody to get a good, well documented, implementation of this great product in VC++.

Anyone brave enough to give an overview of the relative merits of developing in Win32 , COM or .NET, with an to the future ? Most of what I have read has been aimed at developers and in house teams with an eye to suggesting the future is .NET ?
Here is some of my thoughts:
Ive seen so many software technologies come and go i dont bother learning too many any more.
Now after experimenting with MFC and finding out Uncle Bills concept of "abstraction" included information hiding, which reduced my comprehension of the windows os i took up WIN32 using C and bought most of the books. The result a budding coder.
Now i perused all the stuff about .NET and realize its possibly a move by MS away from traditional os toward virtual machines etc.
So can anyone advise if my current win32 applications will be worth maintaining or even developing new ones if, as it appears, MS will at some point in the near future mandate what type of binaries can run on their virtual machines, and this includes their previous idea of MS deciding which applications are fit to run using their code signing methods.
I purchased Petzolds C# and the code to do similar in win32 is voluminous, do I have to learn another language? Although i am proficient in cpp, its the framework calls and amount of code required to do simple things.
So has anyone any thoughts on this is the future .NET, since MS can remove WIN32, since its only a layer over the system, and we have COM appearing to duplicate many WIN32 functions?
The removal of Internet Explorer from the Freeware Shelf and making the commctrl non redistributable, seems to hasten the process of death by a thousand cuts.
So how should I view the future WIN32 , COM or .NET whats the best strateg

Huh? There are benefits of using COM?
Sorry, had to rant becuase of some of my personal bad experiences with COM.

COM is a significant improvement over raw DLLs in some ways, such as standardising some interface negotiation, and lifetime management. I've had bad experience with COM too, usually debugging code written by someone who didn't know what Release was for, and had never heard of smart pointers.
I'd guess that isn't you, sounds like you're a fair way along the learning curve if you're complaining about it

I have downloaded several article Projects and have open them in VS, When doing this I have found some give me a version error. It says the project was created in a newer version than I have. Is there a work around for this or do I have to upgrade to VS 2003?
If I am having this issue I assume others are also, This would be a good idea for an article.

I am finding that many of the online applications that I have worked on or with have a survey engine of some type. You may find it more difficult to develop really useful one then you think.
It should have the ability to branch on answers to questions as will as a paging aspect that would allow admins to change the page that a question shows up on. There would also need to be a good reporting tool, One that would report the results in several formats (graphs, tab delimited for export and of course just the numbers.
You may even want to have it have several types of surveys. Like public, private, email verified member and so on.
Just a thought.

How about an article on setting up nightly builds on a budget. Lots of programming tools are free, but all I can seem to find a *nix scripts or commercial tools.
Possibly work through some of alternatives available and point out the pros and cons of each, with brief examples.
- WSH
- Perl / TCL / Python / Lua Scripting
- Batch Files
- Visual Studio Automation
- Cygwin and a bash shell
And some information on what is necessary to add additional tools into the build process.
- CVS
- Running make's for microsoft & non-microsoft compilers.
- CppUnit / run tests
- Collate Results
- Upload the results as HTML via FTP
- Send an E-mail to a list of people
Some advice on integrating build triggers would be good too.
- Trigger on time (nightly, hourly)
- Trigger on CVS commit
- Manual trigger

Does anyone here have problem with Windows 2000's Fonts after installing SP4?!
It was working fine since I installed SP4 for my Win 2000 machine!
Always,
Hovik.

a possible reason for this problem is the fact that microsoft has edited the way it's software reads fonts, therefore it is possible that some fonts will not be rendered since they do not match the format of microsoft.
here is what you can do to fix it.
there are a few programs out there, but the one I found easiest to use was:
fontCreator
purchase or download (I believe they have a trial version) this program,
copy the fonts you would like to fix onto your desktop (or another folder that you'd like) and edit them. then copy them back intoyour fonts folder.
that should do it.
if you have any problems let me know, and I'll try to help

Tnx dear:
let me to work on & then inform u!

I did what u told:
Copied font file a.ttf to a diffrent folder, opened with FontCreator 4.0 & Then save as in other folder! I didnt solve the problem & still windows cant open font!!!
Always,
Hovik.

if all you did was open and close the font then the problem should not have been solved, what you must do is EDIT some of the fonts PROPERTIES - I dont have the program here with me and I dont recall what menu it was under, but there are some options to edit font properties.
if you would give me an example of a font that you're refering to it would make it easier to help.
it is possible that the font was originally created for a MAC and therefore what has to be done is in the properties it has to be changed to "windows". - that should fix the font - also before putting it back into the fonts folder make sure you deleted the old version of it from the fonts folder. (and it would not hurt to keep a backup of the old version just-in-case you do something wrong.

tnx for reply:
no I edited the font & saved but no sense! And also the fornt is not for MAC & is MS font?!
Can u fix it if I send the forn for u?! if u wont mind?!
Always,
Hovik.

if that's the case, then I dont really know what to say.
usually I would try to do it for you, however lately I've been extremely busy and dont have much free time, so sorry about it.
however, if you would give me an example of the name of the font it would help, since it is possible that I already fixed that font.
Good luck!!

Dear friend:
Tnx for ur reply & help! the font that im using are Lotus & Titr! but they r Farsi fonts, & I dont know if u have them or not?!
Tnx anyway,
Hovik.

yes, you are correct in assuming that I do nothave them, however if you send them to me, it would help.
now that you mention thet they're another language (other than english) I am 99.9999% positive that the problem you have is as I specified previously, since the problem I had was also with a second (weird) language font, and it was set to be read like a windows font, but the language of the font was not set correctly.
if you try and fix the language settings that might work, otherwise, if you're still having problems, send it to me and I will try and help. - although I cant gaurantee when I'll have time for it.

Can someone please write an article an extremely advanced attributes.
Not just creating them but Like the Property attribute for the toolbar applies to all components within an assembly
What is the methodology behind attributes and how in a real world can you save coding time.
I've read all of the attributes but I yearn for a really adavnced topic for c#
I'm not an expert yet, but I play one at work. Yeah and here too.
