Any "compression" algorithm that adds artifacts that could change the interpretation of the picture should be banned. Previous attempts at "compression" algorithms such as JBIG2 (used by Xerox in its copiers) altered numbers and characters on scanned images, and similar mishaps.
It's only a matter of time before such technology is misused - to "identify" a criminal, to "read" an illegible license place, or to put some poor CEO* or accountant in prison for filing an incorrect tax return.
(*) One of the few cases where I'd feel sorry for a CEO that went to prison...

Job applications that require the applicant produce a viable product should be compensated. Asking for previously existing job products would be exempt, but in the software and marketing world far too many job interviews include someone asking for a new project of some sort.

I went for an interview at one company and the questions were very related to my existing job and how I managed and overcame some issues and specific problems. Very specific problems. It turns out this company needed help with things I had already solved for my existing (similar product) company and was just trying to pick my brains without having to employ me! I made sure I was paid my expenses and then used the Official Secrets Act to stop talking about what I had been working on. The interview ended fairly quickly after that.

I had a similar problem.
I was on an PLC & Robot automation project for a customer where our contact person was a high skilled assh...
One day he came to me because he wanted to test the station I was programming, he started with basic things and then continued with more difficult things, even trying to fool the PLC on purpose. Then he said: "uh, it is blocked". As I was pretty confident on my program, I looked very surprised. He smiled a bit and gave the touch panel. I tried to go back to home position and reactivate the automatic process, but I could do it. I had to look live in the PLC (like debugging) to look for the blocked point. Once found I pointed it out and explained how we got blocked, then he told me: "I will come back tomorrow and I don't want to see that bug again". I had it solved in less than 30 minutes, no big deal.
On the next day he came, tested, tried to block it again and couldn't do it. He tried some things more and once he got satisfied, he took a backup of the PLC content and went away.
Some days later, a worker of the client that was nice and had a good relationship with us, thanked me for the fix. And I was like "what fix"? He explained me, that a service technician assembling a new line abroad had had that blockade and could not end the configuration of the production line.
So the of my contact person had come, reproduced the bug on my station, asked me for a solution for their own library and sent it to the technician... On the economic side, I didn't care at all, in most of our projects the customer was the owner of the software no matter if fully programmed by us or not. We had a clause that said our standard functions were ours and we could continue using them in future projects for other clients, but what was machine specific was industrial secret and their property.
What bugged me most of that situation is how he did it, trying to make me believe that the problem was in my station (it actually was a problem in a function of their private library) and "ordering" me to solve it, without even asking me for help or saying thanks for the workaround that solved it.
But at the end and looking for the positive side... it was a very valuable lesson for me, that helped me in future similar situations.
