Ok, so a fixed width left column and the a variable width content column.
Sure, use this:
<div id="navigation">
<ul>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 1</a></li>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 2</a></li>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 3</a></li>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 4</a></li>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 5</a></li>
<li><a title="Page link" href="">Page 6</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
<div id="content">
<h1>Page Title</h1>
<p>Content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content.</p>
<p>Content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content.</p>
<p>Content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content.</p>
<p>Content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content content.</p>
</div>
and then CSS:
div#navigation
{
width: 100px;
float: left;
border: solid 1px #000000;
height: 100%;
}
div#content
{
padding-left: 120px;
border: solid 1px #000000;
}
So the idea is to have a DIV on the left with float:left set and a fixed width. Then the DIV on the right expands to fill the space. The padding-left: 120px; keeps it off the left DIV.

That is a pretty cool way of doing it as well Mike. I really need to remember absolute positioning more.

you can't call server side script from VBScript like this
what do you want to make ?
instead you can make a frame and write a script like this :
Frame1.Navigate "page1.asp?var1=X"
or use databinding if you use IE.

you can access a history object with window.history
history object properties:
current<br />
length<br />
next<br />
previous
Methods:
back()<br />
forward()<br />
go()<br />
toString()
I haven't used it myself, but I think it's only for the active browser window.
Hope that helps.

Here is my problem from another forum I tried:
I tried IFRAME and it worked with a bit of fiddling, but I don't like the extra scroll bars it adds, and I think that it only works in IE...... though not sure.
I read in another post about server side includes, but I don't know any php, and wasn't sure if I should do it that way. I managed to load the page using Java Script like this
#menu
{
position:relative;
background :#66CCCC;
float:left;
width:20%;
height:100%;
}
#content
{
position:relative;
float:left;
height:100%;
width:80%;
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id="menu"> menu goes here</div>
<div id="content">
<script type="text/javascript">parent.location.href='../html/ch1/notes/Unit1a.htm';
</script> </div>
</body>
</html>
(I put another post about thisJ) However I have the problem with the file being over writing the menu, I tried changing to relative positioning with little luck.
What I want to do is have two columns side by side, one menu and on the right a dynamically loaded html page. I am writing some javascript to automatically generate a menu of links from the heading tags in my html page, that is the eventual aim. So that whatever page is loaded a set of hyperlinks will be put on the left. The idea is to save me time in making up a menu though it hasn't worked so far .
BTW, is there a way to specify a fixed column width for one column, and have another expand to fill the rest of the screen cf frames??
Cheers
Andy

You can disable the scroll bars of the IFRAME.
It works on Netscape 7.0 and on the latest version or Opera.
I cant see any reason why you are not using standard frames. Just find a beginners tutorial in HTML and you will be surprised that the FRAMESET tag is excactly what you need...

Are you looking for something like this (you would do this as you cycle through the recordset:
if not adors("yourfield") = "yes" then
Response.Write "something"
end if

I am unclear as to what your question is, exactly. Is it an integration problem? Do you have a DHTML interface and want to add CSS (or the other way around)? Are you looking for ideas for using CSS?

See I have a CSS file and I want to include a javascript into the CSS file so that I won't have to type in the script for every page.

Just put your JavaScript code into a file named script.js (or something similar), and include it in your headers, e.g.:
<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"
src="script.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css">
<-- Rest of page... -->
