Terminal could mean a lot of things... there are UI libraries out there that simulate a UI in a terminal. Windows 1 did it. Ncurses does it.

So when you say terminal, are you talking about something like this? Or is it something like this?

In either case, the good news is you don't need any fancy UI library. If they're that resistant to change then less is more and I can't imagine any UI lib that wouldn't have the basic inputs to mimic those two screenshots.
