Well, we're back from Sweden, and like all good trips this one seemed far too short. Still, the week was long enough to show us what a beautiful country it is and hopefully it won't be too long before we can go back and explore further .
For those who asked, some photo's of the trip can be found here[^]. Also an account of our canoe trip on the beautiful Lake Vanern can be found here[^].

Hey Meg,
The pics are cool. Myself and Ulla are thinking of going there in the near future so I'll be bugging you for tips around then. One question.. any language problems?

Well, Swedish is something I've heard is a difficult language to learn. But, I guess that wasn't your question, you problably want to know if we talk/understand any international langiage also. I think there is pretty many swedes that know German quite well.
Can you speak English, then I promise you won't have any language problems. Of course there is exceptions, but we're pretty good in English.

You'll love it, although it's getting colder and colder I believe... Still, my sister-in-law assures me that it's even more beautiful in the winter when it's all white and sparkly .
As for language, well, everyone says the current generation of Swedes learn English at school and speak it really well. However, I guess they get rusty as they move into their 20's, and sort of start forgetting. However, they are so friendly and sweet that you can get anything across. We learnt quite a bit of Swedish from friendly people in the week we were there.
If you do go I'll be really envious!

I take it you mean my home, not where I'm currently living? Although SA is now heading into a warm, beautiful summer I'm sitting in England losing 30 minutes of light every 10 days . Roll on January and our holiday at home I say!

BTW - I was wondering about ferries to Ireland. What is a reasonable price for two people with a car, and how long should it take? I looked at a website which claimed you could book Liverpool - Dublin, but seemed to insist you should book a cabin. Surely the trip isn't long enough that you would want to go to sleep?
Thanks

The trip is around 4 hours to the best of my knowledge... on a normal ferry. The lynx will get you there in 2 I think but I'm not sure if it's a car ferry. To be honest I don't really know about prices with a car... foot passengers would normally be around €40 return I'd say... so you could add on around €200 (~£135) for a car but that included 2 passengers so it's not too bad. As regards the cabin. No idea. Who are you booking with?

I'm not too sure about that. Car rental in Ireland is fairly expensive due to the ridiculous insurance costs over here.

Guess it'll have to wait till the spring / early summer then, when we have a bit more cash. I've recently discovered kayaking with whales off Cork and am desperate to give it a try .

The scan of the slide is terrible - this[^] is a better example, taken in South Africa, but unfortunately it's only a 1 hour exposure so the trails aren't as long. It's cool seeing the different star strengths and colours .

Nice one . You are lucky that you could do it without the light of town. Once upon a time I did these things inside towns and my sky became green.

Just took a look at some of your other photos, and they're very nice! You have a good eye for framing and seem to have wonderful opportunities for excellent shots!

Those are really good pictures. My favorite was probably the one with the lion in [Night Hunter].

Yeah, it rocks, I love it! It has so many extra's, I would recommend it to anyone. One of the things I love most about it is the infra red setting - I can take photo's of wild animals at night with no flash (increasing the chance of survival with grumpy elephants considerably ), although the lion you like was taken full colour with the flash on the lowest setting.

Please do - I haven't been there yet, I would really like to see how it looks to another normal person, rather than an overglamourised brochure
Don't forget to include a couple of you and Ulla

Most were taken on a normal camera so there is nothing special and I managed to get my thumb into a few [hey, it was cold and I was wearing big gloves!!! ] but there are some really cool pics.
