Seriously consider using FTP rather. You don't want to use HTTP post for that kind of thing.

Thanks a lot, you are right. But I have a question, does FTP works from all computers to my Server after I configure and allow ftp to my server, or is there a possibility that a user might be disallowed due to his computer configuration?
Thanks a lot again.

I am curious as to how the auto-scroll feature works in the .NET scrollable controls. How does it set the view-port into the virtual space of a control’s draw-able space?
I understand how to do it if I have a definable space (say like using a bitmap etc. with defined unchanging bounds) but am not sure how to do this if the region I’m using is infinite with changing bounds.
I have a situation where the width and height are fully scalable and dynamic with other controls (that know how to draw themselves in the proper place on their parent control) being “drawn” on the virtual area. I can get this to work with auto-scroll (I keep changing the AutoScrollMinSize as it changes) until I look at the requirement that another control above it (same width) has to scroll in lock-step for the horizontal scrolling.
The documentation states that you can set the AutoScroll property to true and then optionally turn off the horizontal or vertical scroll bars by setting the protected members HScrollBar or VScrollBar to false. In practice, it doesn’t seem to work for me. If the AutoScrollMinSize property changes (which mine do constantly), it resets the values to true. At this point, even if I reset the variables back to false, they still show up regardless of how they were set and I have scroll bars where I don’t want them.
Here are my questions:
•Is there a way to make the auto vertical/horizontal scroll-bars stay invisible with AutoScroll turned on (like the documentation states)?
•If not, what is the best way to override this functionality to mimic the auto-scroll functionality? I’d really like to not have to play with the WM_H/VSCROLL window messages. But if this is the best way, again, how do I change the view-port position into the virtual space I’m using?
•Is there a better way?
Thanks,
Mike

Plz help me.

ACK, that's all
For a simple Sey/No-Box there's MessageBox.Show(...), all other boxes are Forms.
ShowDialog() returns the DialogResult property of the form.

how to serialize/deserialize derived class between two application? here is the situation:
class container
{
BaseClass bc;
}
class BaseClass
{..}
class DerivedClass1:BaseClass
{...}
class DerivedClass2:BaseClass
{...}
------------------------------------------
the "bc" in the container can be assigned to be DerivedClass1 or DerivedClass2. Those classes and serialize/deserialize functions will be use between two applications (App1, App2). App1 serialize "container", App2 try to deserialize "container".
I tried following ways:
1. Binaryformatter/Soapformatter: During the serialization, App1's name will also be serialized. When App2 try to deserialize, it can not find App1 and generate exceptions.
2. XmlSerializer: it can not serialize when "bc" is assgined to a class other than BaseClass
Any guru have any good method to handle this situation?
Thanks,
Leo

You can add an attribute to any member variable [NonSerialized] (could be slightly different spelling) that will cause the formatters to ignore the member when serializing.

This is one of the great problems I've runinto when serializing something in Xml. You must explicitly state what base classes the member or property will take on via attributes. Here is a good article on the matter

I'm looking for a PushButton control, similar to the pushbuttons that you see on a ToolBar, but without having to use a ToolBar. I'm surprised that the standard Button doesn't include anything to support this - the closest thing appears to be the FlatStyle (which *could* sort-of look similar). Have I missed something??

I assume you mean a button that has two states, pressed in and not pressed in?
For that you can use a CheckBox and set the Appearance to Button.

I created some .Net controls that derive from System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebControl. However, I am unable add the controls to the toolbox of a project in another solution. When I click the "Browse" button and select my controls .dll, I get the following error.
'there are no components in MyVerySpecialControls.dll that can be placed on toolbox'
Any ideas?

Hello, does anyone know how to increase the speed of a dotnet application?
I am writing a class library which wraps the C++ library. I notice it is a bit slow. Anyway to improve the speed? Anyone?
thank you.

hmm... me too facing such kind of situation. In my case, the part written in VC++ is COM based application. I will be consuming the COM application via Interop. C# provides option of unsafe code which improves speed dramatically. Thats why I have suggested my company ASP .NET (might be in C# or VB) as front end application.

My first question would be "Are you running the program from inside the VS.net environment?" I've noticed that some of my programs run a bit slower inside the environment than when I run them directly.
Short of that, could you be more specific as to what is slow? I've interfaced with several libraries without any speed problems at all - perhaps it is the C++ library that is slow itself??

Thank you Mike for attending my question.
>>"Are you running the program from inside the VS.net environment?"
No. it is not. However, I don't think that would make much different unless you are talking about release built and debug built.
Okay, here are some of the informations of my project. It is basically a class library which wraps the C++ source codes. It does image processing.
I notice that the dotnet built is slower than the original built in C++ although I realize that my class library still runs on Win32 platform and not dotnet. You could check this by going to configuration manager properties in VS.NET.
In short, I would like to know are there any tuning or setting in the configuration that allow me to optimize my class library execution speed.
I would like my dotnet class library to be as closest fast to the C++ executables as possible.
thank you.

Apologies if its not on the correct forum (there didn't seem to be a relevant one), but, does anyone know if there's any way of uninstalling DirectX8 from the MSDN package (under VS.net2003) and replacing it with the DirectX7 SDK?
Thanks in advance,
Gary.

Good Morning!
Me and my group is developing a rapid application development project. One problem that we encountered is how to add a freeware like a password generator into the windows application form. It is our first time in VB.Net and we have a lot time to catch up.
Thank you very much...
Hope for your reponse asap...

I'm trying to develop a custom component library in C#. One of the set of objects in these components would be dropdown controls (DateTime picker with dropdown calender, Numeric edit with dropdown calculator, dropdown tree control, etc.)
From what I understand, for these objects (calendar, calculator, tree, etc.) to drop down in the "correct" way, they shouldn't be forms, but actually WS_POPUP windows that have the desktop as their parents. I'm imagining they should capture the mouse as soon as they drop down, report to their owner (textbox, or whatever dropped them down) and then release the mouse. Am I missing something? Is this the correct approach?
Problem number two. Is the following methodology right: I should define an interface (IPopupControl) and implement it with every desendant (like for instance: DropDownTreeView: TreeView, IPopupControl). The reason is then I should be able to assign any dropdown control to an owner, and then the owner would always call a method (like IPopupControl.Popup) because it will always be implemented. So in other words, the owner will always be accepting one object [object?] which is IPopupControl instead of a specific object (DropDownXXXX) according to what it wants to drop down. Then of course, every dropdown control will implement its own methods that are different, to report the data back to the owner control (most probably textbox).
I would have to call some Windows APIs in this process I would imagine. What are the disadvantages?

Visual Studio 2003 documentation contains information on System.Net.Sockets classes that are not recognized in the IDE. For example IrDAListener is unavaliable to use. Documentation states that it is in Framework 1.1. I have 1.1.4322 but it appears to be unavailable.
Have not found any update to Framework newere than what I have. Does anyone know why this is unavailable?
