Ok, if i understood you well... you're wondering which language could be better, right?
Then, from a newbie to other, get this on your mind:
Don't get tied to only one of those! Use as many languages as you know, while they can co-exist. Don't forget to debug properly any work you do... It will take you away many sleeping hours, but in the end it will be worth!

I do not believe what you are looking for is possible.
Why don't you explain what you want to accomplish instead. I may be able to find other ways to accomplish your task.

Anyone know how I can stop browsing of my images directory.
I know I can place an index.html in it to redirect somewhere else, but is there a way to redirect people if they type in direct image URL, rather than a html page requesting in. I just want to stop people viewing individual images, I'd just like to display the relevant html page that displays it.
Thanks for any help

If you can browse your images directory, that must mean you have directory browsing enabled!!! This is generally a bad thing!!!
To disable directory browsing bring up your IIS manager, bring up the property sheets for your web site,go to the Home Directory tab then find the directory browing allowed check box .... uncheck.
Once unchecked directory browsing is not allowed

What are the different state management techniques in ASP?
For Ex :
1) Use Cookies
2) Use Session variables
3) Use hidden form variables
Others ?...
&
How does ASP Session variable work ? Does it send some cookie to the browser ?
|
|
|
|
|
If you have cookies disable you will get a different session ID for each page requested. If you need persistance under this condition you may have to use hidden fields.

Hai Friends,
I have a table having 4(DropDownBoxes)columns that grows dynamically.
In the first column I want a Combo Box to populate all National Regions from
the database.
Upon changing a National Region, I want to populate all States pertaining to
the selected National Region in another Combo Box beside the first one from
the database.
Like wise, Upon changing a State, I want to populate all Counties pertaining
to the selected State in another Combo Box beside the Second one from the
database.
The Last column will have a hyperlink to the same page with "Delete" as
text display.
I have a Command button (Add New Location) upon clicking should grow the
table by adding a new row with another set of the elements (one combo box
each for National Regions, States, Counties) and a Delete hyperlink.
I want to delete a particular set (row) of elements by clicking the Delete
hyperlink.
The functionality should be such that only that particular set of elements
(their values) should disappear and the total number of rows should get
reduced by one and all the other elements should have their values intact.
How can I achieve this functionality?
Using Arrays and with
JavaScript or
ASP voding
Anybody Pl. help me comeout of this problem.

To add/delete rows use javascript to modify the innerHTML value of the table (this will only work for IE).
To update the comboboxes you can include an invisible (0 x 0) IFRAME and use javascript to open an ASP page in the IFRAME. This ASP page should query a DB on the server, then create some Javascript that, when the page is done redering and the javascript is executed, will dynamically modify the contents of the combo box.
To get started, try using Javascript to dynamically add/delete rows, and dynamically set the contents of a combobox. Once you have that, the IFRAME thing should be relatively simple.

add a favicon.ico file at the root of your website. The file is a standard icon file. Chris has written an article on the site about it.

Hi there,
after installing the nimda patch, i am getting an HTTP 500 Internal Server
Error anytime i try to access a virtual directory on my server. This only
happens with the ASP pages as i can access the html pages without any problems.
So basically, if i type, http://servername/default.asp, i get the error
and if i convert it to an html and type the address, everything works fine.
Any ideas?
thanks

I have written a simple ATL com object for use with my ASP pages. The object is an FTP object based off of the WinInet library. Everything is working great i can connect and it is verified and everything.. but when i envoke the Download() method (aka a wrapper function for the FtpGetFile() func), it downloads the files to the server which the component runs on.. instead of the clients computer... I would like to fix this but i am not sure where to start?! Any help would be greatly appecated(not the best speller .

Hi everyone!
How would I go about finding the text cursor position in a text box in internet explorer or any other web browser??
For example if the text box had this sentence
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
And the blicking text cursor was between m and p in the word jumped it would return the value 23.
Please help

No can do I'm afraid.
Your only option is to create a text-box-like DHTML element to keep track of things.
Is your ultimate goal to control the format of text entered in?

Yes it is possible (ASP is not necessary either)
I think before we continue you should verify why you are attempting to perform this DUBIOUS operation!!

I am currently writing a site to be run from a CD. There are a load of Word, Powerpoint and Excel files that I have links to but I would like them to open the actual applications rather than just display the files within the browser window.
I have written a VBScript to do this but keep getting the IE security message about unmarked ActiveX controls, and if this site is ever run over a network, the ActiveX control wont even be downloaded with the default IE security settings.
I would like to be able to just change the IE security settings to accept the control but this is not really a valid option with over 4000 machines (most with users who have difficulty finding the ON button!! )
These are the bits of code that are causing the security issues:
Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")
Set objPPT = CreateObject("PowerPoint.Application")
Set objXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
I have done a little research and believe I need to do the following:
1) Embed the controls within <object> tags in my HTML
2) Assign them the appropriate CLSID - What are these for these 3 controls?
3) Modify the registry on the Client machine to mark these controls as 'safe for scripting' - I have no idea how to do this from my webpage
Any help would be much appreciated
Kind regards
Tony Perrin
