Ok, does anyone know where I can begin to look for examples of some certain system events that occur on a PC.
I need to know the following:
1.) Computer LogOn / Bootup Event
2.) Computer LogOff / Shutdown Event
3.) Computer Idle / Sleep / Awake Events
4.) Screensaver activate / deactivate events
I know there is a way to hook the System to receive the Idle event, but can anyone point me in the right direction for some of the other events? Maybe using WMI is an option?

You might want to start here:
<a href="http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/security/security/event_handler_function_prototype.asp">http:
What you ask is not easily done because of the events your asking for.
Are your writing a service, a user app, or what?

Actually, it doesn't matter what kind of app...whatever way is the best to implement it...I don't really care about the "easy" factor of programming.
I'll check out the link.

I am serializing an object and sending it through networkstream to another computer. However when i try to deserialize it, it is giving me a error "BinaryFormatter Version incompatibility. Expected Version 1.0 Recieved version 1566270836.0"
I am using socket programming and not remoting. I am creating the application on a stand alone machine having only one version of .NET framework.
How can i resolve this error?

Hi All!!
Well! I am developing a report designer like in Access but facing two problems.
1- I want to make my ToolBar Floating. So that my tools float over my designed area rather than making it fix on form.
2- on same designer I have to draw lines. when panel is repainted then all the lines disappear. SO i added them in an arraylist and repainted them all. But now whenever mouse is hovered over the panel all the lines start flickering.
Thanx in advance
sorry for my bad English.

I am writing a WINDOWS form with a datagrid where i need to run a loop and basically flag every item (containers to be shipped in this case). Now, I've done this with a webform and have had no problems what so ever with it but when it comes to a Windows Form the controls are differnt i.e., namespaces I can't perform the same functions. Here is the sample code from a web form and I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to approach this from a windows form? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
'Insert Shipping Request Information into tblContainer - manifestDocument & shipingRequestID
Dim myDataGridItem As DataGridItem
Dim strContainerID As String
lblStatus.Text = " You selected the Following containers to be shipped:
"
'Look at notes: Put the update clause back in at lblStatus.Text to update those records as they cycle through the Loop
For Each myDataGridItem In dgContainer.Items
strContainerID = CType(myDataGridItem.FindControl("lblContainerID"), Label).Text
With cmdUpdateContainer
.Parameters("@containerID").Value = strContainerID
.Parameters("@containerShippingRequest").Value = fldID.Text
.Parameters("@containerUpdateDate").Value = Today
.Parameters("@containerDateShip").Value = fldDate.Text
.Parameters("@storageType").Value = "PEN"
.Parameters("@wasteStream").Value = ddlWasteStream.SelectedItem.Text
End With
SqlConnection2.Open()
cmdUpdateContainer.ExecuteNonQuery()
SqlConnection2.Close()
End If
Next

Hi!
Is there a way that I can display text or highlight dates that are having events in the mobile web calendar control?
What I'd really like to do is having the results of a database search displayed in the calendar. That is, read from the database and get back all the events of the month (lets say) December, then have the calendar displaying them (or highlighting the dates) so when I look at the month of December 2003, 16, I can have a text says: Day of Reconciliation (or the date highlighted if no text). That's what I'd like to have but I found out that mobile web calendar does not have a "DayRender event" and I don't know if it's even possible with mobile web calendar control (or is it possible to create a control that will do this). If possible, where to find code on how to do it. (I'm using Visual Basic)
If you have any ideas please let me know.
Thanks
TG

I have an incoming fax basket that my clericals review during the day. I am constructing a UI that will allow them to review the faxes and distribute them accordingly. One of the functions of the UI will be to ICR the incoming document and then extract info from the document e.g. "Store Number", "Customer Name" e.t.c. and apply that information to specific "Extended Properties" of the file such as applying the "Store Number" to the "Comments" property. This way I will be able to pre sort the files by specific info in the Explorer like interface I am building. My question is can someone send me in the right direction as far as a good book or article on Shell programming that will make this task a little easier or even better has someone constructed this code already that can give me some pointers and snippets.
Thank You

In VB.NET, there is the numericupdown control that is great (for validating input, i.e. max, min, number of decimal places), however, I am working with very large numbers and it makes no sense to have the spinner buttons visible, as there is no rational incrementing value. Is it possible to shut the spinner buttons off, so that they do not show up?
If not, would it be easy to write a custom control to have the same functionality as the numericupdown control (properties of max, min, number of decimal places), but not have the buttons visible? Does anyone have a custom control available they would like to share?
Seems like Microsoft would have created a control like this.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

It seems you are basically just validating the input so why bother with a custom control? You could just use a validator and a text box?
|
|

I understand what you are saying, but it would be much "cleaner" to me if there was a standard control just like the numericupdown, but without the spinner. Why did they bother creating the numericupdown (I am being sarcastic)? It could have just as easily been a text box where someone had to write the code to validate it? Why isn't there a control just like the NumericUpDown, but without the spinner? That is all I am asking for. Seems it would have been so easy to make the Spinner a property (visible or not visible)!
Oh well.
Thanks

I need to connect to AS400 and run select query and then save the results into SQL database. Do you have some examples, how to do this?

Here's the problem: I have raw data (from a mainframe) in the form of a text file and its also already in tabular form with a title centered on top and everything. These numbers are normally inputted manually on Excel. How do I get that info from the text file automated so it is put into Excel nicely? Do I keep the text file as a text file or do i want to change it into CSV file? What is the easiest way to go about this?

Try just opening it in Excel. Excel's Text importer is pretty good at dealing with tab-delimited files.

I'm pretty new to VB programming however i'm trying to become better. i Play an online RP game , i want to make some sort of calculator with an cope and paste option so i can copy and paste info from the browser/clipboard into the program and format the text.
the text might look like this :
name
sypto
country
trysto
12876
offense
12000
defense
10000
something liek that , not i need to have a way that it copies the 12000 and the 10000 for example into the calculator..how do i start this ?

If you're playing Utopia (http://games.swirve.com/utopia) there is a good calculator already (http://utopia.sourceforge.net/) .
Use the Clipboard object to get the text you just copied from the browser, and afterwards you can treat the text as string. I am assuming each line is separated by Char(13) and you can probably split them into an array using the Split() function and get the data you want from the array.
Here's an example from MSDN on how to use clipboard (you need the namespace System.Windows.Forms):
Private Sub button2_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs)
' Declares an IDataObject to hold the data returned from the clipboard.
' Retrieves the data from the clipboard.
Dim iData As IDataObject = Clipboard.GetDataObject()
' Determines whether the data is in a format you can use.
If iData.GetDataPresent(DataFormats.Text) Then
' Yes it is, so display it in a text box.
textBox2.Text = CType(iData.GetData(DataFormats.Text), String)
Else
' No it is not.
textBox2.Text = "Could not retrieve data off the clipboard."
End If
End Sub 'button2_Click

Hi,
Is it possible to use a vb.net library in a vb 6.0 application? I have made a vb.net application that communicates with a vb 6.0 COM add in. And I want to be able to send my custom vb.net objects to the vb 6.0 COM add in. Can it be done?
Best regards

Have you looked at the .NET SDK documentation section "Exposing .NET Framework Components to COM" ? Start there - it may help.
