I agree. I try to minimize sleep as much as I can because there is no fun in sleeping. I remember vacations in which I averaged 2 hours sleep a night... I would come back from the bars around 4:00AM and be up and out for a 5 mile run at 6:30AM.

No. This is the basic 4 to 5 day vacation. I do usually get a good 10 hours sleep when I finally make it home...

Beware of solutions that will be worse than the problem. Your best bet is to get as much sleep as you need. You'll be thankful for this when you are older. Habitually getting by on less sleep than one needs as an individual (even if it is 12 hrs/night) will lead to a host of diseases later in life, many of which average medical professionals will not connect with poor lifestyle habits (such as bad sleep habits).
People in this profession may not know it, but an important good health habit a person can form is going to bed at 10pm every night (consistently). It's a bit of a challenge (understatement), but it is important to remain close to the objective.

In my previous post, I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you really physically need 12 hrs of sleep.
The other possibility is that you are just lacking motivation or you are depressed, etc. If those are the issues, then various treatments should be investigated.

If this is a serious problem to you - especially if you are still tired and wak in your wake time - GO SEE A DOCTOR!
There are a whole lot of conditions that can make you tired - from lack of iron to heart defects. So much for encouragement
If you don't feel that sleeping 12 hours is a problem for you - simply do it!

For the uninitiatied EQ can pretty much disable your daytime productivity. Most of my team have been able to break free, as has (I'm told) Erik Thompson.[^] I live in fear of Sony releasing a signficant upgrade though.

That's what I really miss from my earlier years - being able to get like 3 hours of sleep and be perfectly fine the next day (and not need coffee to do it). Of course, if I had a boring class I might sit in the back of the room and nap for half an hour...

I burned out my ability to do that during my sophomore year. I remember at one point I would arrive at school, buy a 16 ounce coffee, drink that during my first class. Sometime during the second class, I'd pop a Vanquish (acetaminophen and caffeine) and a NoDoz (more caffeine) or two dry. After the second class, I had a break. Time for another 16 oz. coffee...
It's a wonder I have a digestive system left.

I thought it is the other way around: the older you get, the less sleep you need. I used to be able to sleep 10 hours everyday, now it is down to 6.
