Hi! All,
I am creating simplified front-end in VB6/VB.NET, which allows very limited facilities to the user. It allows user to view drawings from different angles(3D Orbit), allows to fill surface with different colors or fill the surface with pictures. User is not suppose to have any other facility than this.
Now, I don't want use COM object application, as it opens another instance of Application which allows user to manipulate drawings in many different ways.
Is there any control (OCX) which allows user to preview drawings? or any other approach?
Suggestion is always welcomed.
Thanking You,
Ritesh.

Hi All,
VB6 CallByName only seems to return a generic Error if one is thrown (ERR.DESCRIPTION : Invalid procedure call or argument). Is there someway of getting my specific custom error messages?
Thanks,

How are you generating your custom errors?
It's been a long time since I did VB6 so I may be wrong on this. But to generate a custom error, I think(!), you had to something like this:
Err.Raise vbObjectError+(your error number), (Source as String - optional), (Description as String - optional)

There are couple of reason for this
1)make sure you connection string that your are passing is correct
My_Connection="Server=<servername>UID=<username>pwd=<password>database=<datrabasename>" i hope this will work out]
2)And if your application is accesing server which is another machine,make sure your netwokr is fine.
write your connection string in this format,which is easy,replace your code with this and build if once again,i hope it will work.

well i think that you had not gone with all the tools which comes with the Visual Studio Package
there is one tool name Package and Deployment Wizard
You can use it
or else you can add the Package and Deployement control
and make your own deployment package
hope this will help you

Is vb.net framework necessary to install this application at client end. If it is then how can we install silently.

In order to work your app on client machine , you would require .NET frame work ,that you need to be install seperately.That is available in microsoft site.just go and see in download side of the microsoft.well if you are using any crystal report in the application ,you must include some merge module along with your setup project.
thanxs
ask me if you face any problem

how do i make the backend database in sqlserver2000 appear on the frontend visual basic form
plz show me the connection code thank u

The simplest way would be to add an Adodc Control from your toolbox to your form, and build the ConnectionString using the wizard.

In order to retrevie data from backend SQL server....
You need to follow this step
1)first go to Project-References-select "Microsoft ActiveX data objects 2.1 library
2)then declare this value
Option Explicit
Dim con As New ADODB.Connection
Dim Rs As New ADODB.Recordset
Dim Com As New ADODB.Command
Private Sub Form_Load()
con = New ADODB.Connection
ConString = "provider=sqloledb;uid=<server uid="">;pwd=<sql server="" password="">;Initial Catalog=<database>;Data Source=<server name="">"
con.open
Then you can write code for retreiving data..
make sure that you close connection each time when you open the connection.
End Sub

I want to create an array of picture boxes (about 10) through code. I have done this succesfully and have them showing up on the form just fine. I can control the size/color and all of that fine when I create them, but after they are on the screen, I can not click on them and get it to run code. I have used the addhandler to assign a click, but when it runs, I don' know how to tell it which box I clicked on. I want to be able to have the pic box I click on change it's image to a different one. When I do this, it always changes the last box, not the one I click on. I found the arrays don't work as they did in VB 6. Please help

Well the event handler of PictureBox click has an object parameter called Sender, which is actually the picturebox object clicked. To do what you want, this is what you do:
Private Sub PictureBox1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles PictureBox1.Click
Dim a As PictureBox = CType(sender, PictureBox)
a.Image = .....

Hi,
I would like to know if the MSWINSCK.OCX control is the best to use to build a multiple client to server application?
Many clients can make DB request to the server. Is this MSWINSCK.OCX enough solid to handle many clients connection?
Thank you
