Can the times on forums posts reflect local time somehow, instead of Bob Central Time?

What do you hate most about office politics?
1. Boss taking all the credit for things you have done.
2. Coworker stabbing you in the back.
3. You were blamed for the problem which was someone else's fault.
4. People depended on you to practically do their work for them, and yet they got equal or better performance reviews than you did.
5. You were blamed for not following the "process" when you went ahead and solved an old problem that nobody wanted to touch.
6. Other.

I haven't been on for a long time, but coming back I find that threaded view is mostly unusable. It times out everytime on 50 articles, about 75% of the time with 25, and about 50% of the time with 10.
Any way to improve the performance of threaded view?

I use Dynamic just about all the time. It is probably just as slow, though. I could be wrong but I think Code Project will be going through a major hardware upgrade in addition to a network bandwidth increase sometime in the New Year. Welcome back, Eric.

Hmm.. haven't tried dynamic, but "Normal" view is blazing fast, as such it would appear that the problem is in the queries necessary to generate the threaded (or dynamic) views over normal.
While i'm sure Codeprojects popularity has put even more strain on the servers (Hmm.. i can remember several such upgrades in the past), I don't think throwing more hardware at it is always the best solution. Maybe the queries can be optimized a little more.

Actually, I just switched to dynamic, and it's pretty quick for me, even at 50 articles. Threaded is still timing out all over the place.

Ok.. i'm a liar... Threaded has suddenly started working better. It's still slower than Dynamic for some reason, but it's not timing out anymore...

Dear CPians,
I have been using CP for a year, more or less, and I have found alot of help on this amazing developers community. I believe that the reason that this community is working well is the fact that there are some outstanding programmers that devote many hours of their day to post good quality articles and answer to questions on the message boards. This makes bad authors and bad behaviour on message boards a big problem...
I have noticed, as most of you have, that some people are posting bad quality articles. Not to mention that many of them are dividing their regular size article into many "PARTS" in order to have more articles posted on here, and thats how we end up with PARTS OF ARTICLES that in some cases wont make a 800x600 resolution screen to scroll.
I understand that if the article posting forms are removed some qood authors will not be able to post their quality articles. Not to metnion that Chris and all the rest of the quys will have to go through every single article and manually post them (which is a huge problem).
So what I suggest?
Each member could have a limit of how many articles he/she can post. Lets say 1 to start with.
Then, the member should earn the right to post more articles by some or all of the following aspects:
1) good behaviour on message boards.
2) numbers of message posting.
3) article rating.
...and if you could come up with anything else...
I would like to believe that this will make people to write better articles and improve their behaviour on the message boards.
Regards.

What if I write an article on .. say 'Embeded System' and I dont have an audience there.
Should I wait for 'some new rules' to allow me to post another article of good interest?!?!?!
Let the articles / submissions be there... u have the forum for the articles... if u do or dont like them, put ur comments there... Let the author come up with an updated version...
Ahhh!!! I have an idea,
If we find that the article is of a form, where we dont like it, we can rate that down, and this should now allow the user to post new article, unless he removes the article away or he updates the article!!!

I agree, I realise that this won't be fair for not very popular (but still good quality) articles. Thats why I also mentioned that the number of message posts might influence too.
And as you said, if an article is bad then the author could update it or delete it and post a new one.

This is a place to share ideas. If you flood it with too much regulation... it may lose the appeal . I strongly believe the rating should be the motivating factor to push the author to write better articles.

I do agree with this... but we should make sure that the articles are updated to the levels - that most of the people can be benifited with it. It should not be just another article from the author - rather it should be meaningfull

Would it be possible to add a few fields by which search results could be sorted, such as popularity (since it takes into account the score and number of votes), date, etc.? (that's all I have in mind, perhaps some others have a few more fields by which to sort).
Wading through good and bad articles is never fun, and most often I use these to post links in the development forum to give users a list of articles about a particular topic. It would be nice to have the better articles listed first.

Can we have a look into the 'TODO' list.. so that we can get an idea of what not to be repeated on the page....
Also, we can get an idea of, what all can be done at a discussion forum / portal kind of site... if at all we want to design our own site
