I was just wondering how you use the printer that is selected by the user through the common dialog box. Everytime i tell it to print it just prints to the default printer. How do i make it print to the printer selected. It would be great to get the code for both VB 6.0 And .NET . Thank you for any help.

u talking about vb windows apps? i havnet used them in long time, and not at all for vb.net.
i thought there was a, ie., "list1.selected" boolean property? well, i know thats how i did it in vb6.

Simple:
ListView1.Item(<index>).Selected = True
But, the ListView control also has to have the focus for the select highlight to show. Use this:
ListView1.Select() ' Make the ListView the active control.
ListView1.Item(<index>).Selected = True ' Select the items we want.

I would like to create a project using VB.net that will load on a web server that will launch a program at a specific time of day, actually send an email at a specific time each day. I must be missing something, because all the event handlers I've found seemed to be based on button clicks or page loads, etc. Nothing seems to be monitoring a server time and executing when appropriate.
Can you make a recommendation for the code and file type that would accomplish this? Can it be done using VB.net? What type of file would be required? I'm assuming there is no way to make an aspx file with this functionality.
Thanks.

Sorry for the cross post. I posted it the first time to the wrong forum.
I'm writing a plug-in in VB.NET to a an application called DesktopSidebar for Windows. Right clicking my plug-in's "panel" shows among other things a Properties Dialog. All I need to do is pop up the dialog in the proper place and on the same monitor in a multiple monitor environment. My plug-in doesn't appear at this point to have the Window handle of the calling application. After quite a bit of trial and
error I came up with this:
Declare Function GetWindowRect Lib "user32" (ByVal hwnd As Int32,
ByRef lpRect As RECT) As Int32
Public Structure RECT
Dim Left As Int32
Dim Top As Int32
Dim Right As Int32
Dim Bottom As Int32
End Structure
Dim colProcess() As System.Diagnostics.Process
Dim oProcess As Diagnostics.Process
colProcess = Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName("sidebar")
If colProcess.Length > 0 Then
oProcess = colProcess(0)
Dim handle As System.IntPtr = oProcess.MainWindowHandle
Dim loc As RECT
If GetWindowRect(handle.ToInt32, loc) > 0 Then
'Where are we docked?
If loc.Left = 0 Then
Me.Location = New Drawing.Point(loc.Right,(loc.Bottom -
loc.Top)/2)
Else
Me.Location = New Drawing.Point(loc.Left - Me.Width,
(loc.Bottom - loc.Top)/2)
End If
End If
End If
This works great as long as you have a single monitor, whether DesktopSideBar is docked to the Left or the Right. However, I run in a
multi-monitor environment. In my particular setup my primary display is my laptop and my secondary display actually hovers ABOVE my primary display (it's a 19 inch monitor) and I have my desktop extended onto it. The code above, only targets the primary display, even though I dock DesktopSideBar on my secondary monitor. My screen coordinates are still good... just not on the right monitor.
Could anyone offer up some suggestions on how to not only determine the monitor my panel is on, but also how to set the location of my dialog to a specific place on the proper monitor?

for anyone who has depth knowledge of rich text format, please shred some light on me. i have a vb.net rich editor that i want to output to postscript from rtf.
i parse thru each character and write out the postscript commands with their attributes. the problem i am having is the character position (x,y) are not correct in the postscript. is there away to get the absolute position of characters in rich text to the postscript points? without using wysiwyg logic...

GridEX control does not support automatic drag. To start a drag operation you need to call the OLEDrag method and handle the OLEDrag events to perform such operations.
Note: The position of a row is taken from the position of the record in the Recordset and because you can not change that position in a Recordset you won't be able to provide such functionality if the control is bound.
Further in the thread is a sample:
We don't have samples that change the position of a row using OLE Drag & Drop. Here I'm attaching a sample project that handles the OLEStartDrag and OLESetData events when it is acting as drag source and the OLEDragDrop event for when it is acting as ole drop target. The sample was done to show how to copy rows from one instance of the application to another but with it you can get the idea of what events can be used.
I can download and send to you if you need it

In a few months time I have to develop a DLL(s) to contain common code which our company will share across many projects.
The roll out of this DLL could be problematic, and I dont want to get into lots of discussions about 'design it first then code it' coz this is the real world and we can't afford to work like that right now. To live we have to code! hehe
Well, if I have my DLL(s) released out there and add a new function does this break binary compatibility in .NET. Does binary compatibility even exist in assemblies still? I would be happy to release DLL's in incremental stages if I know that I wont break things just by adding new functions and objects.
Any experiences and stuff would be really appreciate.
Thanks

Are there any free UML tools worthy of use on small to medium projects (you decide what small to medium means)? Do they interface with VS.NET for reverse engineering?
Thanks

There is ArgoUML[^], but I don't think it interfaces with .NET stuff.

Had a quick look, but isn't it just for Java?

It is written in Java, but AFAIK the UML is the same as every UML.
