Hi all,
I have created a VB.net application, and I want to create the installation package for the application. How can I do that?
I have installed VS.NET Enterprise Edtn, I dont' find any Wiz. in Tools.
Can I use the same Package & Deployment wiz. that comes with Visual Studio 6.?

Absolutely not. Package and Deployment in VB6 doesn't have any clue what to do with a .NET project.
If you have the Enterprise version like you said, then right click on your solution (top line) in the Solution Explorer on the right. Click on Add... then New Project. Click on Setup and Deployment projects on the left of the dialog window that comes up. On the right, you can click either a Setup project or Setup Wizard which will make a base installation for you.

I installed Visual Studio and worked on it for a while. I then didn't work on it for a month and a half. When I tried to open a new project it gave me an error message saying something like "Automation Server cannot create object". How do I fix this problem? And what did I do wrong to get this error? Could I have deleted something important?

You might have a corrupted Windows Script component. Download the latest version from here[^], install it and try your making a project again.

Generally,we can control datalist's display field by databinding by html,such as <%# Container.DataItem("Title") %>
Now i have a problem,I want to change this bind field by my option in codebehind file,such as i want to display Title+Digest or Column+Title
so who can tell me how to make this done?

It says in the doc that you can't use readfile to get status of the paralle port pins. So what do you use?
I've done this on an old computer with qbasic don't have a clue in VB.NET. I still have the book Controling the world With Your PC.
I'm hardly the only one that'd like to know this, not all are programers. So try to keep it simple if posible

Hi Gregory. Well, you could use MenuItem.Text for the menu item caption, or you could use MenuItem.MenuID for the item's Windows identifier...

i was wondering if there was a way to determine when any key was pressed? so it can be used for instances where a 'press any key to continue' type of thing is necessary, or where a one character answer is required.

iv already worked with .read() and .readline().
.readline() gets input from the console. the user must press enter key to end the input.
.read() is just like .readline but it doesnt read the full line of text the user entered, if it was even a full line at all.
in both cases. the user must press the -enter- key. is there away to do it without having to press enter?

OK. The Console class doesn't support the type of input that you want, ... yet.
You'd have to look at the Win32 API to get what you want. Specifically, the GetConsole, GetStdHandle, GetConsoleMode, SetConsoleMode, FlushConsoleInputBuffer, and ReadConsoleInput functions. You'd have to write your own PressAnyKey function that, when entered into, gets the handle to the current console window, get the handle to the StdIn stream, saves the current console input mode on the stream, setups up a new mode that disables LINE INPUT, then use FluchConsoleInputBuffer to clear out any remaining keystrokes. Put up your 'Press any key to continue' prompt, then use ReadConsoleInput to get the next character in the input stream. When all that is done, then you restore the console input mode and call FlushConsoleInputBuffer to clear any remain keystrokes out.
Hopefully(!), this functionality will be in .NET 2.0.

I want to specified my datalist's style on run-time by program,not on design by html.Such as,the style may be title+author or column+title,because i want to change the style by my option ,so i have to bind data when run-time.
Following is my code,i just want to test it, but it doesn't work,even doesn't display article list.

simple question.. using vb.net for a small vb windows app:
where is the best place to declare an object variable?
i have a custom structure which i have delcared a variable array with..
each method in the program must be able to access this variable (its a simple 1 form, module, class program)

If your variable is going to be accessed by many of the methods in your class, make it a global variable by putting it just after your class statement.

ok thats how i am doing it. i was just wondering if this was the most efficient way of attacking this.
also, i used 'dim' rather than 'private', in classes they are the same thing, no? are they always the same thing?

They do the same thing, such that Dim is actually optional. But, the variable visibility changes depending on wether it is declared with Public, Private, Friend, Protected, Protected Friend, Static, Shared, ... Look up 'Dim' in the Visual Studio help for the explanation as to what all of these do, with examples.

visual user interface for separating one multi-page PDF/TIFF file into
separate files and saving those separate files. Envision a user interface
that treats a multi-page PDF/TIFF like a "Deck of Cards"; the deck can be
split into two or more decks, any one card may be discarded, and the order
of cards within a deck can be changed. Another desired feature is the
ability to copy any one card and reproduce it.
