i am not sure but i think that you have to use some scripts to do the job in this web page cuse scripts works in the client side and in this case there are no need to reload all the web page controls

Try overriding Page.RaisePostBackEvent and provide an implementation of IPostBackEventHandler that uses the information in the post back argument to simulate your control.
There would be a way, though. This isn't like in Windows Forms where the callback (event handler) points to a managed memory address on the heap. Post-back events all original from a simple HTTP POST with a little help from a small piece of client-side Javascript (__doPostBack).

I have a program that runs as a service and needs to know when any user has successfully logged in.
Using the SystemInformation.UserName shows that 'this' process was stated by the 'SYSTEM'.
I have been forewarned about touching the security events by the end users IT management, so looking for a valid logon event with the current setting are out of the question.
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

A service always runs as the user under which it's configured to run. If your service is configured to run as SYSTEM, then it will always run as SYSTEM when the service is started (at startup if configured as such, which is the default behavior). Many services will implement APIs that impersonate users but still can only run as a certain account (like SYSTEM).
If you want to moniter when other users log in (since your service is continually running despites whether or not someone's logged in), then you need to monitor system events. The .NET FCL (Framework Class Library) exposes no such APIs, so you'll have to use unmanaged code through COM interop or P/Invoke.
If you're limited from checking security events, then you could use WMI and handle an event query for the Win32_LogonSession WMI class. The details are buried in Microsoft implementations and all you have to do is register to receive an event when something changes. See the class documentation for the System.Management namespace and see MSDN Magazine[^] for several good articles (including links to more information and a good WMI plugin for VS.NET's Server Explorer (beta for 2002, released for 2003 - but both work good).

Hello,
My name is Michael Davidov I am 17 years old and a junior in high school. I have been programming in C# since the .NET Framework was publically released. I want to teach a class at my highschool in Seattle about computers and programming and find no easier, or more useful language than C#. My school has never had any form of computer classes or anything remotely related to programming. It actually makes me quite upset considering it is a private school (Seattle Academy of Arts and Sciences)and every student has a nice win2k or XP laptop with a 802.11b connection.
What I really need is a book with lesson plans that other students can consult out of school when I am not available. I have recieved the go ahead to create such a class so I am in need of a text as soon as possible. Also any suggestions on how to GRADE assignments would be very welcome.

First, NEVER grade a student based on what they did compared to what you did. It's okay to put a little emphasis on how they accomplished a problem (there are good and bad ways and they should be encouraged for doing it in a good way). In college there were far too many professors that gave bad grades if you didn't do it "their way" (and in many cases some of us did it better). Good development is an art. Some people either have it or they don't and not everyone is cut out for it. In fact, most people in this field now don't belong here.
As far as picking out good books, you might consider visiting sites like http://www.efollet.com[^] and other sites that sell books for colleges. They often times sell the teachers manuals, too, although you might need a teacher at your school to get them. Some series require accreditation in order to get the teachers' manuals (otherwise dishonest students would have an unfair advantage). Others require that you get X copies of books and will send 1 or 2 teacher editions (my mom's a teacher so I've seen her go through this since she's responsible for college-level books).
Many of these types of books focus on how to develop rather than a specific technology, which is sometimes good. Since this is a private school (i.e., most students - or their parents - have $$$) you might consider a companion book that focuses more on a specific technology (like .NET - not necessary C# since it's only a language that targets the CLR, something most people seem to not realize). So many academic books out there are pretty vague and only trying them (which many offer) will tell you which ones are good and which aren't. (BTW, books from Dietel and Dietel seem pretty good and both beginners and intermdiate/advanced programmers seem to like them).

I found the best approach is to actually buy/look at several books and learn the content yourself and then simply go from the Hello World operation to wherever it takes you!
One thing i have found, if you teach using VS.Net drag and dropping every little thing and using properties people tend to thing an object is limited to its properties rather then looking at the msdn and learning about the objects! Which seems a very bad thing to me!
Personally I would try and teach them using as much hand written code as possible, this may initially sound bad but for their future it is very good as they will turn out as more technically skilled programmers then a drag and dropper!
Books I would reccomend to you... well I always go by something an old tutor said to me check the spines of your books the more worn out they are the more useful the book is!

I am using an active-x component (AxMediaPlayer) to use microsoft mediaplayer on winxp platform. It works fine but I can't play wma files with license files. Well, the problem is that I fill a dataSet and in some functions I change the informacion of its Tables, but letter I want to return the data of one Table to the dateBase that it procced.
It's important because with it I'll only make two requests to a DataBase, to take the information and to put new information.

See the DataAdapter derivative classes. You can use DataAdapter.Update (so long as the InsertCommand, UpdateCommand, and DeleteCommand properties are assigned) to update the database. If you plan ahead, keep the instance of the DataAdapter that filled your DataSet with fully-assigned properties that can fetch and update data.

Hi,
Can someone please help me, I have spend many hours trying to solve the problem...
I have an inherited TextBox control to which I added a custom bool property with Bindable(true) and DefaultValue(false) attributes. Using the IDE, the property is bound to a column in a Table within a DataSet. The databinding works fine.
The problem, during the form layout the 'Set' accessor of the property is mysteriously called with 'false', which seems to set the 'IsEdit' flag on the CurrencyManager for the row, forcing an update of the row while no data has actually changed.
Is there a way I can prevent this from happening?

Both BindableAttribute and DefaultValueAttribute are design-time attributes. They will not do anything for you at runtime. The former is used to put the property directly in the "Bindings" catagory instead of having to click on "..." in the "Advanced" design-time property. The latter is used by the designer to know when to serialize the property value and when not to. The specially named ShouldSerialize<PropertyName> is also helpful for this.
If your property is getting set mysteriously to false, put a breakpoint in your code and examine the stack trace. That will tell you what caller is calling your set accessor.

Hi, is there anyway to make a TrackBar Control transparent? Ive tried all sorts of thing like for example:

And I've tried setting the WS_EX_TRANSPARENT extended style:

From MSDN for SupportsTransparentBackColor :
The control accepts a BackColor with an alpha component of less than 255 to simulate transparency. Transparency will be simulated only if the UserPaint bit is set to true and the parent control is derived from Control.
Have you set it to true?

Is it possible to embed a .chm file as a resource and display a help window using it? I have a small app and I'd like to have a few windows that display some info using html. I thought .chm would be the easiest way to go. I found another solution on the web which uses an active X control to use IE, but it doesn't seem to work in a multithreaded apartment... which this app is. Any ideas?

Why not just distribute it like every other program and library without embedding it. Talk about a waste of space and expensive load times. Besides, in order for hh.exe (the HTML Help viewer) to load and display it you'd have to extract it anyway unless you host the ActiveX controls, get an IPersistFile implementation to read your embedded resource stream then go to a lot of work with interop to read it. Talk about a useless mess! Just distribute it as a separate file like every other program.

If people start deleting any of your files, they will invariably break something. Same goes for any program. They shot themselves in the foot - you didn't pull the trigger. Up until Windows XP with system file protection enabled, users could easily hose their systems doing the same thing. There's nothing you can do besides charge them extra for luser support.
