Hi;
I am building an SDI application which requires a list control found on Tabs of a DialogBar. I managed to initialise the list control to some value. However, users of the tool are required to log-in and the list control is supposed to fill dynamically according to their log. I tried some piece of code to get it done but i got an ENORMOUS assertion error.
This is what i get when i move to debug mode:
_AFXCMN_INLINE int CListCtrl::InsertColumn(int nCol, const LVCOLUMN* pColumn)
{ ASSERT(::IsWindow(m_hWnd)); return (int) ::SendMessage(m_hWnd, LVM_INSERTCOLUMN, nCol, (LPARAM)pColumn); }
Can someone please help me to understand what this means and possibly how to overcome it. I badly need this.
Thank you;
Krugger

It simplely means that the listcontrol was not created.. are you trying to insert something out of the scopeof the listcontrol variable or out of the dialog ???

My company uses Clearcase and VC6 to develop a large application, with thousands of .h/.cpp files, all under source control. My workspace loads up 15 seperate projects, which each contain as many as a hundred seperate source-controlled elements.
The thing is, workspaces open up SLOW. VC6 loads the actual workspace & projects up very quickly, but then stops for up to 10 minutes "Updating Source Control Status". I know Clearcase can, be slow, but this is too much.
Does anyone have any advice on how to speed things up? It seems that VC6 is checking the checked-in/out status of each file individually, blocking the whole app until it is done with the thousands of files I work with. Is there anything I can do make this process go on in the background, or surpress it altogether?
I would appreciate any insights or comments.

I've something similar except that the application has only two projects and maybe a hundred source files. It can take nearly a minutes to fully load. I think the IDE is just not up to handling that many files. For some of my smaller one-project applications, it loads 'em almost instantly.

I have my ATL built CoClass.
In its header file i have:
static const int MAX_SPEED = 500;
But the compiler refuses to compile and throw me this freaking error.
c:\documents and settings\antonz\desktop\anton\c++ tests\atlcarserver\atlcocar.h(41) : error C2258: illegal pure syntax, must be '= 0'
Can anybody enlighten an idiot.

You can't initialize a static const in the class definition (confuses the compiler).
Declare the variable in the class definition, then in the .cpp file put
const int CoClass::MAX_SPEED = 500;
|
|
|
|
|
ISO C++ allows 'static const' variables as class members, as:
class MyClass
{
static const _iN = 3;
}; But not VC++6.

At the risk of annoying whoever posted on this subject yesterday:
enum { MAX_SPEED = 500 }; The ability to initialise a constant within the class declaration was added to C++ quite late in the standardisation process, and VC6 doesn't support it.

Hi all,
I have one doubt in creating the wizards using property sheets. In my application i created the three property pages (dialog) with the size of 250x175. But whenever i included with the property sheet, i can't fix the size of the property sheet. How can i rearrange size property sheet.
And i have one more doubt.. Whether it is possible to place the "Back" and "Next" button in the customized position. I would like to place the "Back" button on the Top Left corner and "Next" button on the Top right corner. Whether it is possible ?
Waiting for ur reply
Regards,
Prakash

The size of a property sheet is governed by the size of the largest property page. Are you wanting to differ from that?

Hi,
Can anyone point me to some tools that would allow for simulating stress tests: excessive memory, resource handle usage for e.g.
We're running into issues related at production site & are trying to reproduce similar conditions in a test lab environment.

I am trying to learn DirectX DirectDraw, but when ever I include ddraw.h I get ambiguous symbol errors. The errors point to the following files and items:
ObjIdl.h
BIND_OPTS
STATSTG
RpcAsync.h
FILETIME
ServProv.h
IServiceProvider
I do not get these errors if I comment out the ddraw.h.
Any help would be great.

CANT SAY 4 SURE BUT JUST TRY THE FOLLOWING:
Make sure you have included the appropriate library files in your project.
In VC++ IDE, Select PROJECT>SETTINGS>LINK
Then add these library fils to the list of existing files:
1.ddraw.lib
2.dxguid.lib
Another problem may be with the static compile option. Make sure u havent included ddraw.h in any other file of ur project.

Hi all,
I have written a simple service and would like to debug it with VC++. Is this possible? So far I have only managed to do it by installing a low-level debugger but that's a bit akward to use.
Thanks,
Mark

YOu can attach yto a process using VC - if you're using v6.0 then select Build|Start Debug|Attach to Process and check the Show System Proceses button to see your service... then once attached, you can break and set breakpoints, etc.

You might want to make sure your service is set to interact with the desktop, it makes things go a bit easier while debugging with the Visual Studio debugger.

Are FSCTL_GET_NTFS_VOLUME_DATA and FSCTL_GET_RETRIEVAL_POINTERS0 valid as dwIoControlCode for DeviceIoControl() on NT4?
The reason I ask is that the Platform Documentation incdicates it is only available on Windows 2000 and XP. However, the include file "winioctl.h" indicates it is available on NT4 and above.
Which is true ?
Has anybody got NT4 with which to verify the solution.
Regards,
Richard
