I would love to see someone write a simple HTML View class, that does not need IE, just uses GDI.
It would be so nice, I have a cross platform application using WindU, and need a HTML window, currently using netscape in a external window which look nasty.
Please someone go on create a HTML View control, and supply the source DLL's are no good on UNIX.

Simply read all the text file in a buffer (ending with '\0') and call SetWindowText().

ReadFile(hFile, buffer, 1000, &read, NULL);<br />
buffer[read] = '\0';<br />
SetWindowText(hWnd, buffer);<br />
Where hFile is a handle to an open file and hWnd is the handle to a static or edit control.

Hi.
I'm trying to develop an application like Window Washer. But I want to insert a caracteristic on my application that Win Washer doesn't hve:
I want to monitor the keyboard when the user where using IE. If the user uses ctrl+D the current url will go to favorites but if the user uses ctr+M, for instance, the url will be put in the favorites and on a place determined by my program. When the user ask my program to clean the favorites all will be erased but urls saved with ctrl+M will be put again in the favorite folders.
I want implement this feature because sometimes we would like to preserve only some urls and it is not possible with Win Washer.
I haven't any idea how to do it. Any information will help me a lot.

PS: I don't want to use MFC. I'm using MingW32, based on gcc-2.95

I am trying to learn OLE DB and ATL. I am looking for a simple implementation of an ATL OLE DB provider based on using the ATL wizard to generate the provider starter code. I can't figure out what to strip out from the generic file-based datasource code the wizard creates to make it see an ACCESS database.

What you are looking for is probably a quite complex control - maybe even an ActiveX Control container. Drag'n'drop stuff is not my favorite. There is an ATL sample called "VBLite", which does this and is available on the net.
You may however also take a look at the "DHTML Editing component". This ActiveX is available with IE4 and comes with IE5. There is something called a "DHTML Editing SDK" with some nice VB and MFC samples.
You actually wind up with a HTML page. You can make your own controls by creating DTC controls or wrapping HTML elements as absolutely positioned layers.
I'm developing a Dialog Editor using it. So far it's looking good.

I'd like to see one or more articles about testing. Say you have written a class, perhaps a wrapper for a common control, or for some complicated COM interface. How do you test it -- thoroughly? and automatically?
XP is apparently very hot these days, and there you are pretty much supposed to test all the time. So how do you do it in practice?

If you want to suppress automatic creation of a child window, you use :

But how do you then create and display a child window eg. view

I have seen the articles on replacing a view with a new view. What I would like to know is how does one replace a view with a splitter window but with one of the panes being the view that was replaced i.e how to incoporate an existing view into a splitter window and have in the other pane a new view.

I try to modify the CColorDialog apparence, but all samples or articles I found are for the filedialog. if I adapt the instructions for the color dialog, it does'nt work.

Does anyone know how to determine if an application is running on Windows NT Terminal Server. GetVersionEx() will give you this information under Windows 2000 but not under Windows NT 4.

I need to find the default installation directory for internet explorer, i know this information is written in registry, but i need this to be consistent across Windows Platform.
I need this information for a program or (script) which can download a file from the web site and place it in a specific location(Plugins directory of IE to be specific) on a client's machine.
I would be grateful if any guidance or solutions are provided.

On most computers "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\" is where iexplore.exe is, thus the defualt directory. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\ is for plugins but you should check out MSDN or someting for more info on writing plugins, and yes the dir's are in the registry, you should configure your install program to read thoose specific keys.
