I would like an application that will enable an MRU list of entries to an edit control(that does not maintain a drop down list of its most recent entries) to be built up and pasted back in. I envisaged a tool that behaved in a similar manner to the Finder tool in Microsoft Spy++ (Choose Spy..Mesages to display the Message Options dialog and then click on the "Finder Tool" that you pick up an drop on a target window). I been searching through CodeGuru and this site for appropriate source code to reuse but haven't yet discovered anything that looks remotely useful. Can anyone point me to something that may help - either an existing tool or some relevant source?
cheers
Steve

Cookie Munger is a small ISAPI DLL from MS that is supposed to support IIS-Sessions without temporary cookies. It does it by placing the session id into all URLs of a webpage send to the client.
The MS sample is very buggy and does not work with IIS 5.0 without quite some changes. Does anyone know of a working version or an alternative piece of software?
Thanks,
Stefan

How can I figure out why my exe/dll is so big.
Working with MSVC 6.
How do I read .map file?
|
|
|
|
|
Lots of reasons your exe/dll may be verrrry big. One major reason is that you may be compiling for Debug. Another
major reason is that MFC bloats your program.
Here is an exert from a map file I just created for my project. In order to understand the map file you need to
also understand a little about assembly language and how the linker puts program object/library files together.
Your program is divided into two parts (or segments) -- CODE and DATA. The CODE segment contains all the program
instructions that you write in your program as well as all statically-linked libraries and object modules. The DATA segment
contains all global and static data objects. Data objects you put as members of a class go into DATA segments, while
the code for the methods of the class go into the CODE segment. As you can see from the map file I show below, there
can be more than one DATA and more than one CODE segments. The term "segments" I use here does not mean the same
in the Win32 environment as it did in the old 16-bit Win3.1 and DOS environments. In Win32, there is really only one segment
defined in the computer -- thus the name "flat memory model". If you have 128 meg RAM in your computer, Win32 allocates all of
it to one gigantic segment, then partials it out as CODE or DATA to various processes and threads. For more in-depth and more
accurate details you need to read several large books or get yourself a Ph.D in computer science.
The last part of the map file shows the size of each public symbol (functions and data objects) that is statically linked into
your exe/dll. The names are "mangled" mainly because of the C++ capability to have two or more methods
with the same name within either two different classes or within the same class. Each compiler vendor (Microsoft and Borland for example)
have different alrogithms for producing mangled names, and the map files will reflect this difference. For MSVC, the mangled name
consists of the original name you gave it in your class plus the names of the arguments and some additional funny-looking
characters.
About the only useful thing I have seen the map file used for is to figure out what function a program is crashing
in. It doesn't say a thing about where the real bug is, but only where the bug got so bad that the program
eventually failed.
Hope this helps a bit (or byte).

With IE 4 and later, you write a browser helper object, which gets notified when the user goes to a new URL. Not sure how it works in Netscape. Probably a plugin of some sort.

I know that somehow you can draw a unicode character from a font that contains the character using the glyph index. MSDN contains a brief article about a tehcnique for mapping the unicode number to a glyph index so it can be rednered using exttextout - however I can not get this technique to work. Can someone please lend a hand and provide a simple example of how to draw a foriegn character on a dc in windows 95/98. Ie can do this, there must be a way

I've searched and found no code on software update by Internet. Some gurus out there may be interested in writing a class CURLFileUpdate (MFC-MDI framework):
(a) to read a list of {FileName, nVersion } from a given "Versions.ini" file.
(b) to acess a file at a given URL to check for info (e.g. {FileName, nLatestVersion, bCritical} on files that are new or have later version, and to allow downloading these files and store them in a specified path.
(c) to update the "Versions.ini" file
(d) to allow the app to exit and then re-execute itself if any of the updated files is critical.
Such a class would be very useful to a lot of programmers. I could cook up one for items (a,b,c), but I'll be stuck at (d) and the result will be pretty pathetic!!.

Hello....
I have to write a program that must manipulate graphic primitives such as lines, rectangules, circles etc.. like a vector program (i.e. Adobe Illustrator?)
Can You help me???
There is a free code library to do that or I have to buy one?
Thanks to all of You....
N.B. I'm working with Visual C++ v6 under both Win2K and Win98SE.

Take a look at this:
http://codeguru.earthweb.com/gdi/jtdraw.shtml
It is a pretty good starting point. Lot of graphics library that you can buy. But most are bloated with stuff you don't need.
