...but most probably it was the answer the interviewers were expecting.

A simple answer could be one of preference.

You start with a question: "Are you serious?". When it is evident that the interviewer is, you laugh scornfully and leave the room.
Seriously, that something can be built in VB, or with batch-files, or by using paper-clips, doesn't imply that it is a good idea. So, you just might want to say: "When MS starts to deliver end-user apps built in VB, so will I".

As a matter of a fact, I don't care one way or the other. It's just the way the question was posed

Note that when asking questions about job interviews, résumés,... you will always get into endless discussions.
The truth is that you'll never know for sure which answer is expected. (short but good or does he want the gory details,...) Every person expects something else.
Know as much as possible and try to answer what you think the interviewer would like to hear. (and hope you guessed right)
anyway, good luck to you.

My application is running very long loop and I would like to give the application time to redraw it-self and proccess all the messages and so on... I don't wanna use threads... For instance in that loop I am setting some text in CEdit and the application doesn't show it until the loop is finished... I really want something as simple as possible... Thanks for help to everybody....I really appreciate it.

Try putting in Message pumping looping into the code, maybe after completing a iteration in a loop. Adjust the below code for handling any accelerator or dialog boxes used.
if(GetMessage(&msg, NULL, 0, 0))
{
TranslateMessage(&msg);
DispatchMessage(&msg);
}

This doesn't work for me, but thanks for trying...

You must either use multithreading or to implement a message pump (as Mayank Goyal suggested). As far as I know, there no other way to get what you want

I created a MFC application and opted for Help, but I have now included a Menu and want to place the Help option there.
The Help button on the dialog had no code behind it but when actioned it called up a Help file.
I just want the Menu item to call up this Help file. but cant find any code/options to change.
All I have done so far is move the
ON_COMMAND(ID_HELP, CWinApp::OnHelp)
in the App file into the dlg file, like this:-
ON_COMMAND(ID_HELP, CDialog::OnHelp)
What else do I need to do? I have created an event on the Menu-> Help item, but what goes in it.
Note the application has the Help files automatically generated.

Look at the WinHelp() function

All you really need to do is add a menu item with ID_HELP as its identifier. If I remember correctly, MFC will have some default handlers in place for this command which will automatically open the help file associated with your application.
If not take a look at the AppHelpX.cpp file which is part of MFC.
If you vote me down, my score will only get lower

I have created an ownerdraw listbox with the following Style.
pco_VerifyListBox->Create(LBS_HASSTRINGS|WS_CHILD|WS_BORDER|LBS_MULTIPLESEL
|LBS_EXTENDEDSEL|LBS_STANDARD,rect,GetParent(),GetDlgCtrlID()+ 4000);
it shows Error after the following line.
pco_VerifyListBox->SetVerifyList(pco_VerifyList);
SetverifyList Function has the following Defn..
----------------------------------------------------
void ct_VerifyListBox::SetVerifyList(
ct_VerifyList * pco_list)
{
assert(pco_list);
pco_VerifyList = pco_list;
ResetContent();
for (unsigned u = pco_VerifyList->FirstCond(); u; u = pco_VerifyList->NextCond(u))
{
AddString(pco_VerifyList->GetData(u).co_Item.GetCharPtr());
}
SetCurSel(0);
----------------------------------------------------
it gives Debug assertin in the AddString line..
It is from the MeasureItem funtion of the class CListBox.
also the program crashes...
what will be the solution for this problem?

Sorry Friends,,
There is a mistake in my posting..
the correct create statement in my code is
pco_VerifyListBox->Create(LBS_HASSTRINGS|WS_CHILD|WS_BORDER|LBS_OWNERDRAWVARIABLE
|WS_HSCROLL|WS_VSCROLL,rect,GetParent(),GetDlgCtrlID()+ 4000);
but the problem is the same...
pls tell me a solution.

Hi,
I need to connect to a DSN (data source name) via ODBC without writing the UID and password into my code in C++.
Has anybody an idea how to solve this issue?
Thanks.
|
|
|
|
|
What I'm about to say is doubtless obvious but... if you don't want to hardcode uid/pwd in your program, then you have no other solution than getting them from an external source (file, user input, registry, etc.)
|
|
|
|
|
Perhaps you could ask the user to input them at runtime.
Sorry already suggested.

It depends on the database you are connecting to. With SQL server, I use Windows Authentication and let Windows worry about keeping tracking of the username and password.
When Windows authentication isn't possible, I get the user to input the connection information in a config dialog and then encrypt it and store it for when it is needed.
Finally, if all else fails. I configure the DSN to already have the authentication setup, so all I have to worry about in my code is passing in a "DSN=<dsnname>" to my connection string.

Any tips on how to generate report using C++ programming (MFC). I have worked with visual basic before and is aware that VB has their own built in reporting tool for report generation. But im not sure how to do that using C++ language. Do I need to use Crystal Report? The report will contain info that is retrieved from the database. This report should also support the print feature. Pls help me! Tks...
Best Regards,

BusinessObjects provide an API for Crystal Reports. You should be able to find example C++ code on their website.
