Chris,
I just used your wizard to upload my Undocumented Visual C++ article. Very smooth, that wizard.
But, how about adding support for .PNG files? They are generally superior to .GIF and .JPG files, especially for screen shots that have solid colors.
Also, how about modifying the style sheet for the <PRE> tag to make the tab offsets smaller. As it is, code in the articles is being indented 8 characters for each tab. I prefer 3 spaces, but I suspect most code looks best formatted for 4 spaces.

I would love to allow PNG but not all browsers support it, so you'd have to write the page in a way that would provide an alternate image for these browsers, and that just is too hard

It is my understanding that non-transparent PNG files are supported in both IE and Netscape version 4 browsers. Are you really needing to support browsers older than that? I would have guessed that many CodeProject "features" require at least a version 4 browser.
here's some info

Wow. "[In] 1999 [Unisys] stated that its policy is to require a $5000 fee from websites that carry GIF images made by unlicensed software -- even nonprofit websites created and displayed with free software."
OK - I will put PNG on the agenda!

Hello,
Just and idea - make the nav bar on the side like on one on webmonkey http://www.webmonkey.com, ie when you click on a header it expands a list. This would make all thoose sections fit in better and it would be easier to find things instead of scrolling around.

Chris
A real cool idea would be to show the number of times a file is downloaded.
Check out
http://www.vintagegaming.com/mame-emu.phtml
Also would it be possible to download a whole section of files.
This is particularly useful when looking for sample code. Otherwise each individual file has to be downloaded.
Other than that - this site rocks!!!

Along that sort of line could you put the current score (and voters) figure against each article when listing them.
Kind regards
Al.
ATL, whomever that is, all the way!

The new loggin box sort of thing on the main page is cool. The book marks excellent!

Codeproject has done great job but we are legging in one very important field and it is discussion forums.
I am having serious problems with their discussion group on codeguru but I still spend my time there, reason being its better and populated. We need to change the outlook of our forums completely and produce much better thing.
Maybe we are somewhat addicted to that interface but we can do better here.
thanks

Yep - fixing up the forums would be a great idea, but the big question is "how". Uwe and I are currently working on making it faster and more navigatable (is that a word?) but I know there have been many issues about speed of page loading and stuff.
We'll get there eventually...
cheers,

The first issue is that email notification does not work well here: I don't get any email notification of this reply to my original post!
Making the forums fast and robust would actually be a big edge over others, first we just need to see what the good things that should be here.
1. proper loggin in mechanism - I am not satisfied with the current.
2. VC questions should have a type DLL/COM/Dialog: but not too much long list or small.
3. Points system is actually a good idea. Even more attractive could be to give credit for earing points as www.qool.com does Wouldn't it be wonderful to earn things on helping others!
4. Interface must be improved. Even if somebody don't even (want to) know VC, he should be tempted to post something
5. to implement, how many ppl view a particular post.
These are just few ideas.
I understand its a major task, and would take time.
thanks
Shahzad

For some reason, the number of new messages for each forum doesn't show up in the forums home page anymore. I'd like to see that feature back.

I've seen this happen a number of times. I'm not willing to invest too much time into fixing the current system becuase I'll be revamping the entire "last visit" logic to make it a little more useful.

Hi,
first of all, you're doing a great job with this site. One modest suggestion: What if the user has forgot his password? My email address is somewhere located in your database and I get a "The email you supplied has already been registered." when I try to register again.

Done!
When you click on "Modify" or "Delete" you have the choice of hitting a "I forgot my password" button that will mail your password to you.

Chris/Uwe,
I don't know if you've been looking into this bug at all, but I just reproduced it. The steps are simple:
1. Click the Reply link on a post.
2. Hit the Back button in the browser.
3. Click the same Reply link.
4. Enter a post normally.
Two copies of the post will be created.

That's far too weird! A message is only created when you click on the submit button at the end of the "Reply" page.
Hmmmm.

Chris/Uwe, I had an idea for a feature. At the top of the page where it lists the forums, it'd be nice to have the number of unread posts listed there too. That way, after I've read all 20 or so posts in the VC++ forum, I can just look up at the top of the page to see if anything got posted to the other forums in the meantime.
So, instead of this:
ASP/DHTML | Code Requests | General Discussions | (etc...)
it might look like this:
ASP/DHTML | Code Requests(1) | General Discussions(3) | (etc...)

For you Mike - anything!

Hello, I have seen this with other messages and my own, it seems in certain conditions, a p is replaced with the smiley figure. One example is when in a message i entered this: “packet” the p got replaced.
I believe the standard for the tongue smiley is a colon, dash, then a ‘p’. :-P.
I have also seen this on other sites that use this same script.
Have fun

Presently, I manage to do that when I first click on the left mouse button to select the HTREEITEM and then click on the right to bring up a message box showing the value of selected item text.
How to GetItemText from a tree view using right click without using the left one first?
Thanks.

To your class derived from TreeView add to the message handler
//{{AFX_MSG(CMyTreeView)
afx_msg void OnRButtonDown(UINT nFlags, CPoint point);
//}}AFX_MSG
Implement the function OnRButtonDown as following
void CMyTreeView::OnLButtonDown(UINT nFlags, CPoint point)
{
UINT uFlags;
HTREEITEM hItem = GetTreeCtrl().HitTest(point, &uFlags);
if ((hItem != NULL) && (uFlags & TVHT_ONITEM))
{
CString strText = GetTreeCtrl().GetItemText(hItem);
AfxMessageBox(strText);
}
}
