I was the guilty editor on this occasion. I do not mean to excuse my fault, but the backlog got big on me during the last couple of weeks with CP access issues and in my attempt to speed up things, I erred on the side of proper-filtering. I apologize to you sincerely and thanks for pointing it out to me. The article has been deleted.
Thanks for replying Nish. No need to apologize, it can't be an easy job and we all take shortcuts at some time
Now that each article doesn't have the editor name at the bottom, how should we point out small errors in articles. (I saw an edited article with a orphaned paragraph tag). I'm sure it would be helpful to you and the rest of the editors if there was some mechanism for pointing out things that could do with being corrected). Not that I'm trying to make more work for you

If you want to report something about an article, it's best to email submit@codeproject.com which will forward to the active Articles Submission Manager. It's better than directly emailing the editor for that article, since he/she might not be an editor anymore - maybe that's why Chris removed the Editor's name from the article footer

Thanks Nish. That makes total sense, and I really should have guessed that myself.
[Suggestion]
I think it would be nicer and more user-friendly if the link was still on the bottom of the page, but rather than having the name of the editor the link should show a mail form that sends a mail to submit@codeproject.com.
Getting a little more sophisticated, the mail that is auto-generated by the form could have an xml body that contained the articles reference number etc. An app could then auto-parse the recieved mail and build a to-do list of changes that need an editors attention. The system could then assign the task to an editor, and automatically notify them of required changes.

The best thing to do is send an email to submit@codeproject.com, or click the "Broken links?" link at the top left of each article (just under the title)
[Edit: Didn't each article used to display at bottom who the editor was? Was this changed because there are now official paid editors.
No - it was pulled because it wasn't deemed to be necessary, and not having it saved yet another database lookup. Merely my doing some house cleaning. If it's useful then it's 2 seconds work to put it back in.

Makes sense to me. I hadn't thought of that, no point doing unnecessary calls to the DB.
Thanks for the response.

Maybe it would be possible just to add in the submit@codeproject.com link where the editor's name used to be and have an appropriate message attached so at least people can see where to send information regarding the editing of an article (say damaged tags, etc.)

There have been some issues over the last few weeks but these all appear to be sorted now.
What URL are you using to access the site?

The problems were fixed over the last couple of days. I couldn't access the site most of yesterday but today it seems to be running near perfectly. Are you having problems today?
I'm sure one of the CP team will pop-up with a few questions later on today, when they wake up.

today the connection is slow, not that much as yesterday, but still very slow, and i can load only one article in time, if i open two, both of them block and never open.
even now when i click "Submit" button to post this message, it taka around one minute to send it, which is far too much for job like this.
(Just for info, i don't have any problem with access speed on other sites, my connection speed i really fast, the problem is not in my connection or my provider)

When I visit www.codeproject.com web scripting is limited to only ISAPI but if I goto http://www.codeproject.com/index.asp?cat=1 and any other link as far as I can tell the rest of available web scripting categories are available...
Not sure if this is a bug or something on my end, but I just figured i'd say something...
Cheers

Currently there is an IBM ad, which is displayed just above the right hand menu.
It seems to be a little too big for the placement location and makes the the front-page look a little unbalanced.
It also means that I have to scroll down to see most of the right hand menu as Question Time and Most Popular disappear off the screen.

I was looking through some code the other day on Code Project and couldn't find any information about the license grant on the code. Typically a code publishing site similar to Code Project would prominently display the license grant of all published code. Without such information about the licensing restrictions (or a statement explaining the lack of restriction) it is my understanding that technically, I am prevented from using the code in any way, particularly in comercial projects. So: Is the downloadable code on Code Project.com site licensed ?
|
|
|
|
|
Each author tends to choose their own licencing terms. These should be stated in the article, or worst case in the code. Most (if not all) articles here tend to be restriction free. There are a few GPL licenced pieces of code, but most are free to use in your apps.
If you are unsure, then an email to the author or a post on the article in question is the best way of determining the actual licence.

Will CodeProject.com support Article Collections? to be advailible for download? so you dont have to always come to the SITE it self? for articles?, example, what if i lose the internet? and my favorite article was on codeguru, and im not able to access it
MSDN Library is a collection of Help/Articles and is availibity for download, or on CD, stuff like that? it would be a nice feature

The idea is very nice. Perhaps we will see a Code Project CD someday. However, problems arise already due to the vast number or articles and submissions. It would probably cover a DVD even, or then some of the articles would need to be left out.
Final question is, of course, the useness of such a CD, or a download possibility. It requires resources to create CDs or upkeep the download section. Who would pay for the expenses ? Would it be an important addition ?
However, if voices are required, I stand for the idea

This sounds like a simple thing, but would be pretty useful for many, like myself. Is it possible to take the same code-formatting script into use that is being used in article submissions ? Which colorizes the syntax automatically ?
If not, then could someone quickly add a few "formatting" commands into the lower section, for the commands <span class='cpp-keyword> and <span class='cpp-comment>, so that they would work on a similar way (paint the text, click the command -> HTML commands entered before and after the painted section)

I would like a feature that allows me to determine the timestamp used for "New" posts as the current system seems a little haphazard. Perhaps a selection of algorithms could be in use, because no matter what anyone is going to suggest, someone else is going to disagree.
e.g.
* All posts in the last hour [or user definable timeframe]
* All posts since I last said so. For instance, I'd like to be able to set the timestamp when I am about to go offline, so then when I come back to CP all the new stuff is marked.
* Different timestamps are used for each forum and then updated when the user visits another forum.
