Yes you use accelerators for this. You set message handlers to accelerator in the same way you set message handlers to menu items.

I'm creating the CEdit control dynamically using Create() in my dialog.
I need this edit box to use default dialog font, not that ugly big font.
Is this clean way to do this ?
BOOL CMyDialog::OnInitDialog()
{
....
m_myedit.Create(....);
m_myedit.SetFont(GetFont());
...
It is working, and no memory leaks are reported, but I'm unsure about how CFont works - do I need to keep instance of CFont I've used for whole life time of edit box ?
Thank you !

Since the edit box will only live for the lifetime of the dialog then it is perfectly acceptable to do what you have done.

Hi y'all
I really hope there an SQL guru out there, because I'm trying to do one of the simplest SQL queries but no luck
In my MFC-DAO application, I want to lauch this query:
SELECT * FROM Songs WHERE Title LIKE '%D'
And I cannot make it work at all... any other WHERE query works ok, but the LIKE queries just make me crazy...
Any ideas?

What wildcard does the databasae you are targetting use? I seem to recall that ms-access uses "*" whereas ansi-SQL uses "%"...

What do you want the statement to return ? This is a valid SQL statement, but I suspect your search string is formatted incorrectly.
If you want to search for all names beginning with "PAL", then you would use:
select * from [mytable] where [field] like 'PAL%'
It might be worth mentioning as well that I'm using ADO to format my queries. I think that DAO, and ACCESS uses '*' instead of '%'. (don't quote me on that though)

Thanks guys, I didn't knew about the wildcard difference between * and %

I am assuming that you want to retrieve all songs information whose titles END with the letter D.
Are you able to run this query through the query analyzer and what is the output?
Because the Query seems correct as far as syntax is concerned, or maybe i just need more caffeine

Hi All,
Using CSplitterWnd class I can split the window in row X column statically.
But I want to split the window as shown below:

|------|--------------------|
How can I do this?
Please, any one has the code for it? any clues?
Thanks & Regards,

Search MSDN for the GENSPLIT example. It has four panes.
Here is a CP article that has three panes.

My dialog application is running more instances of itself
by calling CreateProcess() to run some tasks (no, i can't use threads).
Is there some way how to debug not only main process, but also child processes, to check memory leaks, see TRACE output, etc ?
Attaching another visual studio instances to all child processes is
lot of work and it can't catch events before before debugger attaching.
Any idea how to do this ?
Thanks !

add the line
__asm int 3
to any intialization function in your process, it will attach the JIT debugger automatically.

A question how typical Dispatch-Interfaces are designed:
Imagine you provide a Script client with a method returning a safearray, like this:
HRESULT GetData([out, retval] SAFEARRAY ** data)
Do you return a "complete copy", or can/should you return a reference to internal data held by the component?
we are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is Vonnegut jr.

I would have thought that you would need to return a copy.
I don't think you can access data across processes just by reference, some sort of accessor functions would be required.

Ofcourse it will be a reference to the actual memory location allocated from the com server.
A SAFEARRAY we create using by SafeArrayCreate or a BSTR we create by using SysAllocString are independent of the component which creates them. The client can manipulate the server allocated memory location. Remember in the case of a BSTR, the server calls SysAllocString and the client has the responsibility to call release by calling SysFreeString . Its like the server calls new and the client calls delete .
Or it is just like a com object we create inside a com server ( using CComObject ) and a cleint manipulates the properties of that server created object.
hope this helps..

Hi,
We specify the next step number for the resources, commands and control by the following.
_APS_NEXT_RESOURCE_VALUE
_APS_NEXT_COMMAND_VALUE
_APS_NEXT_CONTROL_VALUE
Do we have any way to restrict the numbers or specify the max limit.
eg. I want my resource to have command values from 1 to 100. So
#define _APS_NEXT_COMMAND_VALUE 1 // Next command number
Can I specify somewhere in the resource.h file saying 100 is the max if it goes beyond 100, throw an error?
Thanks,
Prashant.

No, just don't add more than 100 of that type of resource.

I create context menu, receiving OnRButtonDown
from taskbar.
But how to detect that user clicked on someone else
place of desktop ?
- To destroy menu.
Or is it possible to create menu that auto-destroying,
when loosed focus ?
thanks.

I USED TrackPopupMenu,
but menu does not disappear, if focus is loosed.
I asked - why it can happen?
