I am making a game called Champions. I do not know anything about C++ I need to know exactly how to connect to mysql database through DLL files plus I'll need to know what to type into the DLL files.
in table1 I have 3 columns for info: 1st column is Username, 2nd is password, and 3rd is status(tells what type of user he/she is)
in table2 I will have 10 columns for info: 1st is name(character's name), 2nd is username, 3rd is con, 4th is dex, 5th is str, 6th is intel, 7th is cha, 8th is wis, 9th is race, and 10th is class. I need to know how to control mysql database through C++ and DLL files. Remember I know knowing about C++. I also want to ask for an IP address to connect to before connecting because the IP address will change alot. have it connect to database on that IP address.

palbano is trying to make my life hell, because I am known to have a short fuse when people ask idiotic questions. If you know nothing about C++, why are you asking a question about it ? What are you writing your game in ? I suggest you use the same 'language' for your data layer, and if it can't handle that ( which is after all, a core thing that computers find easy to do ), ask yourself the odds of it creating a half decent game. MySQL is, in any case, crap. You may as well use Access. Either way, it sounds to me like you're lost at sea, and need to seriously evaluate what sort of project you're capable of taking on.

Why in the world would you want to use a language for which you know nothing about? What do you have against using C (or C++ if that's all you have access to) to make some "starter" programs with first? For example: converting fahrenheit to celcius and back, writing to and reading from a file, averaging numbers entered from the keyboard, calculating free/used space on all drives, etc. Get some of the basics out of the way before "diving into the deep end of the pool."

Since the IP address is subject to change, wouldn't it make more sense to use a host name instead and let DNS-lookup find the correct IP address, whatever it happens to be today?

I've defined my own slider class, with a CONST max range value 10000.
When i press a button to retrieve it's value, it works fine(even with >100 values).
When i call OnHScroll, it's value never passes 100.
How do i make to retrieve bigger values in call of OnHScroll ?
Or is there any way to ovveride OnLButtonDown and OnLButtonUp, to be accessed by main window "OnLButtonDown and OnLButtonUp" (i tried to check if the mouse click is in slider's rect, but the app reports a click only if the slider is disabled).

Hi!
I have a list of images, all in raw 24-bit format and of the same size. Now i need to create a "streaming" video of them. The video should be played back by windows media player over the net. By streaming i mean, that the video can start playing before all the video data has been downloaded. Audio must not be supported, but it would be great for expanding the whole thing. I'm currently working with VC++ 7.0.
Could anyone help me with that? Any example code or tutorials on that exisiting?

Yes, there is.
Platform SDK supports a control called 'Rich Edit Control'. For creating and using documentation, refer to this[^] MSDN link.
In short, call CreateWindowEx and specify RICHEDIT_CLASS as the window class name. For more detailed information, read the MSDN topic.

Hi,
I have an application that writes hundreds of small files (video) to the disk.
i want to be able to limit the size of disk the application is using, so when a certain quota is reached, it starts deleting the oldest files to make room.
the files are saved in directories named after the date they were created in, and under another directory, that specifies it's source, so going through all these files every time the limit is near may be inefficient, but i have to support a directory structure clear enough for a user to access manually later, so i can't just put them all in one directory and sort by date.
any suggestions on strategies to this sort of disk management ?

This is what disk quotas is for. However, I'm not sure how to enable it programmatically. My first guess, since it's a policy-level change, is it's not a trivial task. This might be a starting point.

Unless i didn't understand - that's not the solution i'm looking for. The disk quota prevents writing new files, but does not provide any kind of FIFO mechanism to automatically delete the oldest files.

Well, your initial requirements seemed to be in two pieces. First, you wanted to limit the space used by the application, and second, you wanted to delete old files. Disk quotas would handle the first, but you'd need something like a service to handle the second.

If the dir tree starts from a fixed root, try to iterate through the tree via ::FindFirstFile, ::FindNextFile, ::FindClose, check the disk quota, and if a new file would overcome the limit delete the oldest one. It's very easy to implement, and can optimized just caching the prev dimension and remembering some few old files in order to iterate only when needed.

Greetings,
Did not see this mentioned in a search. I recently went to a dual monitor setup (left/right) and I now have a nice big play area. 8-) But in Visual Studio, when I open a file, it creates a HUGE window that spans the whole workspace. I can't seem to find any setting that controls this. Is there any way I can tell Visual Studio what size of window to open by default?

If using Visual Studio .Net 2003, then go to Tools -> Options and under Environment, click General.
On this page, you can choose either the tabbed view or the MDI view, as in old Visual Studio 6.0. VS must be restarted in order for the effect to be applied.

Thanks, but I am using V6.0, not .net. I should have been more specific. I'd like to use .net, I have it, but some of the off-the-shelf components we use are not compatible, so can't compile our C++ in it.

Hi all,
I have a dialog that have to do something when it gains the focus.
The dialog is derived by CDialog and contains some controls.
I tried w/ CWnd::OnKillFocus and CWnd::OnSetFocus but my overloaded funcs are never called. The func CWnd::OnLButtonDown works well but I also need to know when the dialog loses the input.
Could you please help me?

Hi David,
unfortunately it does not work.
My dialog is a window inside a frame in a SDI application. I checked w/ Spy++ and it does not receive any WM_ACTIVATE msg.
Have u got any idea?
