I hope this is the correct CP place to ask a CSS question -- apologies if not.
I am trying to only use TABLEs for true data presentaions, not for layout. Therefore, when I had to create a FORM that requests information (Name, Address, etc.) I looked around and thought a definition list might be the thing to use. The code below works great in Netscape (although I'm not sure why the DD section starts inside the DT section (see borders -- only for troubleshooting)) but looks not so good in IE. Actually, the DD section that contains only a text input field is the only one that doesn't line up.
Any help would be appreciated.

You should actually be using fieldset, legend and label for this.
DT/DL is for defining things and lists.

Paul: Thanks for the pointer. Not only am I making the form more "correct", but the client loves the look the fieldset element adds to the page.
Thanks again.

Hi,
I have written a small asp script that simply gets all the file names from a directory and then
list them as hyperlinks. When I click on that hyperlink, a dialogue appears asking to "Open", "Save", "Cancel"
and "More Info". I don't want this dialogue box to appear because user can save that file to his/her local pc then.
I don't want to let user copy that file.
I want it to be like if user clicks on the link then the file only gets opened with the application it is associated with.
Please help me in this regard as its urgent.
With best regards,
Zee_Zee

If a user can view the file on their own PC, then they can save it. This is a fundamental truth that is very difficult to get around. See DigitalRights Management.

I would refer you to www.searchenginewatch.com. THis should get you going but, a word to the wise, unless you are willing to pay for a pay-per-click service (eg Google AdWords, Overture etc) or you are in an obscure sector/have some unusual brand names (eg NipperFlipper Ltd)then you stand almost zero chance of guaranteeing a top ten listing.
good luck,

PS: I have been optimising sites for clients for over 8yrs and getting good rankings has been getting exponentially harder year on year.

Another site to check is www.WebProNews.com[^]. They have a decent forums section also.
EDIT: Here was an interesting thread posted yesterday
http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=28089[^]
Major warning though, doing the optimization wrong can get you banned! Google also will ban you for using products like Web Position Gold (I think that was the name).
One of the most important things about getting rankings is the quality of links you have coming to your site and the number of them. Not only do the links bring you traffic themselves, but they help boost your ranking in search engines.
You can find some sites on the category focus of your site and then ask them to link to your site. Sometimes it might even be good if you buy a decent link somewhere.
BTW, what is the site?

It takes alot to be in the top 10 especially google...
I have found...although not confirmed by google...that even same domain redirects on index pages will get you banned...I went from one to not registerd at all

First of all, to start with, make sure you have HTML meta tag "Keywords" and list of keywords in each and every page of your site.

Hi all,
I have web page contains several download links. How to do if I want to send an email with zip file attachment rather than direct download.
Currently, I used DreamWeaver but I do consider others.
Please help me asap and give sample if possible.

Hi Paul Watson,
Thanks for your prompt response. I'm totally no idea what email system to use because this is first project doing Web things. I used Dreamweaver to design Webpage. Can you tell me what is the best email system to use.
Thank you.

Hmm, difficult question. It's not a case of just what email system but what programming environment you choose.
With DreamWeaver you can choose ASP, Coldfusion and with MX and up, ASP.NET. I am not sure about PHP in DreamWeaver.
You need to look at a whole host of issues to decided which one is right for you. What skills do you already have. Hosting possibilites. What skills you should have (for the job market etc.)
I'd say the easiest is ASP but the best choice would be ASP.NET.
In ASP you send email like so.
In ASP.NET you send email like so.
Really though you have much bigger decisions and things to learn than sending an email. Web-dev is interesting though. My bias is C# in ASP.NET.

Hi Paul Watson,
Your answer helps me a lot. Thanks!
My another question is what kind of languages that Linux can support? The most popular like ASP,PHP,JSP,CFM, CGI-PERL. Are these run properly under Linux environment and in DreamWeaver??

I have a page with a history.back(); link. In IE it refreshes the page when using this link, but with Netscape Navigator and Fire Fox I have to press F5. The page needs to be refreshed because the page that contains this history.back(); link deletes a record from the database. Now when you click on this link it should take you to the page where you select to delete a record (REFRESHED).
Is this possible?
I appreciate all help.
THANKS

The history has been a pain for cross browers and now with asp.net's post back methods, you cannot simply call history.back() to get you to the previous page, since there may have been postbacks already issued and you have to keep count of them to even get to the proper page not to mention having it refresh.
In your situation it would seem you would know the url they need to get back to. In this case you could do a Response.Redirect back to the page and I believe that would cause a refresh.

Thanks for the reply.
I have tried using the HTTP_REFERER, but this only seems to work when you have a link, and not with a button, I think this is pretty stupid. The reson why this would work well in my project is because I can delete property from about 3 different pages, they all go to the same delete process page. THen it would be great to have a go back link, to the page where the request came from, maybe page A, or page B, or page C.
Cheers
