I do not know if this has been suggested before or not, but please bear with me if this is the umpteenth time you've seen this proposal.
I would like to see a code snippet database. A snippet would be a chunk of code (1 to 100 lines or so), which demonstrates the usage of a function(s) or class(s). Such a snippet should be indexed on keyword such as function and/or class name, and on concepts such as I/O, process management, thread management, etc (predefined concepts of course). The database should also be wiki-like, meaning that anyone can augment or correct an entry.
What do you think?

As far as the code snippet goes, you can post useful small code snippets are HintsAndTips.com. That is what it is there for along with about any other topic beyond computers

hi,
I don't know whether it is possible or not. But still i feel the i need to post this.
In codeproject i have couple of friends (supporters). I got these friend through codeproject only.
My question is We need to give a provission for achiving communication between these site friends.
(Especially Techinical communication not personal).
Eg. I want to know whether supporter 'A' is avilable or not.
Suggection : If codeproject editor's would have give a notification on supporters profile that whether they are online or not.

Is it possible to include a Report it link under the Toolbox section which will allow users to send notification to administrators of advertisement articles or testing articles like this[^] and this[^].

I use the Broken Links link to notify of these kind of abuses of CodeProject. Maybe that link could be renamed to provide a more generic use.

Hello!
I don't know when you introduced this, but I've just noticed those "Broken links?" link top left of each article...
Well, and I have to tell you, I don't like them that much there. Somehow it gives me the feeling that something is wrong with the article... It's not separated from the article somehow, on the first look you think it's part of the article content.
It's not that I have anything against that link itself (I like the idea!), I just don't like it THERE.
My suggestion: move it down, into the colored box with the "[Top]" link and the rating cast section. Right of the [Top] link, a [Broken link?] link would be very fine!
_outp(0x64, 0xAD);
and
__asm mov al, 0xAD __asm out 0x64, al
do the same... but what do they do??

On the CP homepage, the text in the left hand column in Firefox is displayed slightly indented. This causes some of the text to wrap and look not so good. A minor flaw in an otherwise great site.

Would be handy since there are now quite a few web developers here and most of always welcome to hear about new ways of site promotions.

Thanks for pointing that out! We should also have a forum for Software marketing or just one for both web and software marketing..
No, it should have it's own forum. It is still part of the developer's world, but not the actual coding of the site.

I have to disagree. Web Development doesn't have to be restricted to coding. It would seem the perfect place to ask the questions about SEO. The forums outside of the big 4, are already diluted without splitting them further. (Although Chris says he's working on an idea to avoid this problem)

A forum for the business side of Software Development is not a bad idea, although I think sites like Joel's[^] already do a good job.

Contentious issue this....
Actually I think that it would also be a good idea because there are many people here making websites and so on who are excellent developers, probably have a really good idea, but ultimately fail because marketing isn't their strong point. After all, who is going to visit a web site they don't know about.
The only other comment I would have is that there would have to be rules about promoting spaming products and the like. That would quickly degenerate the forum if it got filled with posts about spamming software or services.

Yeah, but it is about the same as spamming any forum. I think it would be great to have a marketing forum for software and web site promotion discussions could happen. While it may not be a high traffic forum, it would be a nice archive of help for those that have to market or product or site.
While there are many sites that cover this, it is nice to have some of those conversations here where all developers can benefit from others hard trails.
This came to mind when I say an article about SEO and it was started to get flamed. Marketing is a big section of many developers lives.

Hi. Dunno if this is the right place for this question, but here goes. I wish to print out some articles from this site but am thwarted by having the rightmost inch cut off. I've tried firefox and IE browsers. I've tried two different printers and I've tried modifying the text size (I was getting desperate!;)
No effect whatsoever.
What (boneheaded) mistake am I making? What's the problem? Or better, what's the solution?

Did you try the "print version" link that appears at the top left of articles?

Doh! That did it! Thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou.
Now I've got some fine reading material when I heads off to the "reading" room.

Any plans to make the articles on the site, take into account the browser specified Text Size. It certainly doesn't work in IE, I've not tried it in Mozilla yet.
I realise it is probably a big ask, but it would be a great help.

Increase/Decrease text size works fine in Mozilla. Until it's implemented on CP, you may want to see this for use with IE.

Interesting.
I'll stick with Mozilla for when I want to increase the font-size. It's only really for when I'm on my laptop which doesn't like running anything less than 1600x1200, that the articles can get hard to read.
