The majority of the C++ code here is Visual Studio specific (or Visual C++ to be more specific) so probably won't be compatible with C++ builder or Turbo C++

..to beat the c**p out of my Deluxe Paint clone (especially if you've got experience of working with DPaint - I want to know if I'm getting the look&feel about right!)
It's currently in very early stages, doesn't do a good deal of what DPaint did, but does enough to start painting (and most of the basic drawing tools work)
It's got no ability to load/save images either (but hey, that's what Alt+PrntScrn are there for!!)
Anyway click here[^] to have a look, and if you spot any bugs, or just want to make any comments, there's bug reporting stuff, and forums on it's sourceforge project page (you'll see a link at the top)
Thanks peeps!

Good start to an application you got going there, only suggestion ive got at the mo is to rewrite the fill tool, because it seems to be a little slow. Are you using the Bitmap SetPixel/GetPixel functions?
|
|
|
|
|
I use GetPixel to read, but GDI+'s DrawLine to do the painting (unless it's a single pixel) - I know it's far from optimal, but it works, and doesn't make my brain hurt the way the other flood fill algorithms here on CP do. I'll probably optimise it a bit at some point, but my main priority is getting everything working
have a look at my code[^] - the fill function is about 2/3rds of the way down

I didnt mean to sound like an expert
I was just wondering, because I had read SetPixel/GetPixel are slow, but had never used them before, so hadn't tested it.

I saw this article on cnn: Free voice mail helps the homeless. I thought it might be cool to try and make a similiar such system which would instead work off one phone line, use a standard 56k modem etc.
Here is what i was thinking:
just like a post office has post office boxes, have a voice mail system where you can give the person a mail box number (such as 455 for instance), the soup kitchen/church/shelter has a phone line hooked up to a pc which takes the call on, then prompts the person at the other end of the line for a box number. The persons own greeting is then played and the caller can leave a message.
To retrieve a message the owner of the box calls in, press # or * or something and types in their box number, then their pin number and can change the greeting, retrieve messages etc. It wouldnt have to be too complex, more likely the more simplistic the better.
To create new accounts the operator could just do it via a webpage, or have an app which connects to the voice mail server via tcp.
I'd prefer to do something like this in C# as it is my language of choice.
So what am i after? Just people who can help - who know how to analyse sound (to work out the key presses) and such. It would have to be free, of course - maybe even open source.
If you have any ideas or feedback, or would like to help - email me @ dev@dvmesh.com
i have aim/msn/icq too if you want the details just email me.

Hey All,
I need to get some volunteers from the US and Canada so that I can test some of our SMS systems' capabilities. So far I've tested items such as rintone delivery and WAP Push messages in Ireland, UK, Germany (Thanks Ulla), and South Africa (Thanks Paul).
The testing itself will involve me sending you some some monophopnic ringtones through our SMS systems and sending some WAP Push messages... obviously this does not cost you anything.
If you are interested just drop me an email (clikc the little [Email] link at the bottom of this post (beside Reply)) and I'll get back to you asap with the details of what information I need from you (e.g. mobile number, phone make/model, mobile provider etc)
Thanks in advance lads.

I am working on a database build tool to turn a database into DDL scripts that are then run as part of an installer application. The work in progress is on GotDotNet.
The design allows for plug-in data schema providors to work on different database platforms but I only have Sybase and SQL Server to code/test on - can anyone out there help me with the other main players (Oracle for instance)
Thanks in advance,
Duncan

Can someone out there give suggestions and solutions to a part of my project .. i am pretty new to graphs and C++ .. here is the problem
=--------------------------------------------------------------=
I wanted to implement a graph class with the following functions
addNode - adds a node
addEdge - to connect 2 nodes
countNodes - to return the countof nodes
countEdges - to return count of edges
countPaths(i,j,k) - returns count of number of paths of length k from nodes i to j
displayEdges - display list of edges
can you include the time complexity of each function, and will be glad if you write extra functions to work with my graph exercise
thanking you in advance!!

we are a small software team of around 10 people and we are thinking of hiring QA people. Any ideas on how to start off a QA team since i have no idea about the QA tools being used in the market or what kind of expertise a candidate should have. Any ideas on how to go on about this?? we are basically working on Visual C++ 6.0 for the core part and Visual basic 6.0 for the GUI part. Also are there any books on this topic both specific to these tools and somewhat general books?? Also i've heard of PC-lint any one using that?? Thanks for your help.

I cannot say much about Q/A but CPPUNIT testing framework is used by most developers to unit test thier code.
The integration with VC6 is also very easy.

I have a small artificial life app I wrote in VB just for fun, but it's way too slow and clunky. I'm looking for a C++ guru with some time to spare who can speed it up a bit for me. My C++ has gotten rusty over the years.
The App is called Pixel Evolution. The idea is based on creatures adapting to their environments over many generations. The environment in questions is a simple image (bmp, jpg, etc.). Each pixel on the target image is a habitat which contains a single a-life pixel. The pixel's RGB values dictate his fitness for that habitat. The closer to the coresponding target image pixel the better.
A random pixel is selected and a random neighboring opponent pixel is chosen. The two pixels have a mini pixel combat and basically the pixel that is better adapted to its environment (closer to the color of the pixel at that location in the target image) wins:
Target #235, RGB(184, 251, 18)<br />
Pixel #235, RGB(232, 148, 67)<br />
Difference, RGB( 48, 103, 49) total: 200<br />
<br />
Target #135, RGB(186, 248, 20)<br />
Pixel #135, RGB(118, 4, 48)<br />
Difference, RGB( 68, 244, 28) total: 338<br />
<br />
Pixel 235 wins.<br />
Pixel 135 Dies.<br />
Pixel 235's (mutated) offspring fills square 135<br />
235 also dies leaving behind a second (mutated) offspring in its own square.<br />
<br />
If the two pixels are tied both pixels produce one offspring in their respective squares.<br />
Eventually All pixels are within 1% of the target images color, producing a pixel-for-pixel replication of the target image, with some very artistic looking variations along the way. It works fast too. You can already see a ghost of the target image within half a generation (with a random starting population), and the image is just about perfect within about 50 generations, depending on the starting population.
The original population can either be totally random, a flat color, a pattern of some sort, or another image. The app should have controls for loading the target and population images. It should have a way to adjust the mutation rate, and room for expansion into sexual reproduction (as opposed to asexual), including mate selection (fittest pixels win), and crossover of the R, G, and B genes. My app also had a funtion that saved a periodic snapshot of the population so that a video could be time-lapsed together in the end.
The whole thing took me only an hour or so to program in VB, I'm sure it would be even quicker in C++.
So how about it? Any takers? Any ideas on other features that could added to a project like this? Most importantly of all, has this been done already? I've never seen it. To the best of my knowledge it's an original idea, but I could be wrong. Please let me know. Thanks.
PS. Let me know if you want a copy of my code or VB App. It's really cool, it's just too darn slow.
