Oh! You didn't specify this little tidbit. Are you saying that each client will keep it's own data locally? Each client machine will not share it's data with every other machine in a common database?
If this is true, then you could use MSDE or Access. In my opinion, MSDE is a better choice than Access. If you have to upgrade to a central SQL Server system, you won't have to rewrite your SQL code like you would if you used Access.

According to my plan, I have to establish a SQL server database on the server. Then each client must store the information on that database because the information is not private. The information is the schedule for each person to set out when they are free or busy. It is easy for the other people (espeically Program Director) to check before they made a cotact whether it is possible or not (whether the person we need to contact is free or busy).
Do you think it is possible to do that? Using VB.NET and SQL server, but I'm worry at the time that deploy an application to the user. I'm not sure how to do that!!

Wait a minute. You just switched to another application. Now your talking about a scheduling app where if someone arranges a meeting, they can first check to see if the attendee's schedules are free?
There's already off-the-shelf applications that can do that without you spending months of development time on it. It's called Microsoft Exchange Server and Outlook. Barely any deployment is necessary if the client machines already have Office installed.

Oh, I'm sorry I should reply to here[^] but I confuse. Ok anyway, I don't want to use exchange server and my boss don't want me to spend the money on this case. He just know that I could do or not, so I have to try hard to work around this problem.

Hi guys
I have used the FolderViewer from the VB.NET PowerPack but the network devices are not shown in it.
The FolderViewer uses the SHGetFolderLocation Function to get the contents of the "My Computer" Folder.
Public Shared Function MyComputerFolder() As ShellFolder
Dim result As Integer
Dim pidl As IntPtr
result = ShellApis.SHGetFolderLocation(IntPtr.Zero, ShellApis.CSIDL_DRIVES, _
Nothing, Nothing, pidl)
If Not result = 0 Then Return Nothing
Return New ShellFolder(pidl)
End Function
Why are the network devices not shown? I read in some different HelpFiles, that net devices may be shown. Under which circumstances are they shown?
Thank you for Help.

p.s. I hope this isn't OffTopic

CSIDL_DRIVES
My Computer—virtual folder that contains everything on the local computer: storage devices, printers, and Control Panel. The folder can also contain mapped network drives.
CSIDL_NETWORK
Network Neighborhood—virtual folder that represents the root of the network namespace hierarchy.

Thanks for your answer.
In my "My Computer" Folder the mapped Network Devices are missing and I don't know why. In the Windows Explorer they are shown but they arn't in the Collection I get with the help of
CSIDL_DRIVES
I only get my local Drives.
So I'm interested under which circumstances my net devices are shown. I already read some Microsoft pages but it didn't help.

Hi, I would like to know the ability of set up project:
- Between Package and deployment tool in VB6 and Install shield, which one is better?
- Between Setup and deployment project in VB.NET and Install shield, which one is better?
Please give me some comment because I have a problem with the project that I want to deploy to the user.

I have an MDI Parent form, I am trying to display an image on the background, I need the image centred in the middle of the screen, and not repeating.
The BackgroundImage of the form just repeated the image when the form was resized, so I tried putting a PictureBox on the form only to find that any opened forms show under the image???
Thanks,
Craig

Does anyone know if its possible to use a custom class as a property for a custom control?
i.e
When you set the forms location in the property editor, it has a little cross next to it, which is essentially the a Point Class.
Point.X
Point.Y
I have tried to do this but it just grays out my property if i use a non standard class.
I combatted this by inheriting from ComponentModel.Component, which enabled me to type in the fields but the propertys set code doesnt get called for some reason.
Thanks for your help!

hi guys
i would like to code in vb.net so that all mondays of a year would be put in one combo box.
could anyone give me a hint? and how to code it.
thanks in advance

I had a quick go at this and my VB is a little rusty, so there is probably a more optimised way:
Const MondayDayOfWeek As Int32 = 0
Dim dtCurrent As DateTime = DateTime.Now
dim currentDayOfWeek as Int32 =Ctype(dtCurrent.DayOfWeek , Int32)
Dim TodayMondayDiff As Int32 = currentDayOfWeek - MondayDayOfWeek
Dim tGetToMonday As New TimeSpan(TodayMondayDiff, 0, 0, 0)
Dim dtt As DateTime = DateTime.Now
dtt = dtt.Subtract(tGetToMonday)
Do While (dtt.Year = dtCurrent.Year)
ComboBox1.Items.Add(dtt.ToLongDateString())
dtt = dtt.Add(New TimeSpan(7, 0, 0, 0))
Loop
Hope that at least gives you a starting point.
UPDATE:
Oops, that's for Mondays until end of year.
Try this instead:
Const MondayDayOfWeek As Int32 = 0 ' Monday dayofweek = 0
Dim dtStart As DateTime = New DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, 1, 1)
Dim currentDayOfWeek As Int32 = CType(dtStart.DayOfWeek, Int32)
Dim TodayMondayDiff As Int32 = 0
If (currentDayOfWeek > 0) Then
TodayMondayDiff = currentDayOfWeek - MondayDayOfWeek
End If
Dim tGetToMonday As New TimeSpan(TodayMondayDiff, 0, 0, 0)
Dim dtt As DateTime = dtStart
dtt = dtt.Add(tGetToMonday)
Do While (dtt.Year = dtStart.Year)
ComboBox1.Items.Add(dtt.ToLongDateString())
dtt = dtt.Add(New TimeSpan(7, 0, 0, 0))
Loop

if you wanted to do it in a comically stupid manner:
Dim i as long
For i = 1 to 52
Combo1.AddItem "Monday"
Next
You could be even more adventurous
For i = 1 to 52
Combo1.AddItem "Monday " & i
Next

Hi,
I have a large file in one of my projects, that behaves as if DebuggerStepThrough is set. But I have removed every DebuggerStepThrough attribute from the file. I want to be able to step through the code, but it won't even stop when I set breakpoints. If I use the Stop command, I get a message saying "There is no source code available for the current location."
This file is not in my main project in the solution, but I can step through code in other non-main projects. Does anyone know any other settings to check, or have any idea what could cause this problem?
Thanks
David

Check to see that you Have Not declared a variable named 'System' as string. If you have, the class will look for methods in that variable, not at the namespace level.
In the IDE Menu go to: Project -> Properties -> Common properties -> Imports and check that "System.Diagnostics" is in the System Imports Box.
Every form and user control should have a line like this in the " Windows Form Designer generated code " region.
<system.diagnostics.debuggerstepthrough()> Private Sub InitializeComponent()
|
|
|
|
|
let's try that again, the line should read:
Every form and control should have a line like this in the " Windows Form Designer generated code " region.
<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThrough()> Private Sub InitializeComponent()

When trying to use Ctype to convert an object to a custom class, i have encountered a problem.
Even though when i call the getType method , im told that both the object that im trying to convert and the destination variable are the same type, however when i call the ctype function, i get a Specified Cast not valid message.
Any Ideas?
Thanks for your help!
